Personally, I would still probably buy it but I would just end up waiting for games to drop from full price before I bought them (as I do now, but I'll buy preowned if they are cheaper).

I voted for I'm not sure.

We all know the reason why devs hate the used market is because they don't get any money but what if their game is crap? Am I forced to keep this £40+ purchase forever?

I like used games because you have those games which you wouldn't pay full price for and it takes too long for sales to happen for new games.

Voted "hate" option. I don't care if the industry is butt-hurt over buisnesses like Gamestop, what about MY options? What if I want to sell MY copy that I bought with MY money? Whose going to buy my used stuff on eBay if my used stuff cant be used again?

Taking away freedoms like that, to do what I want with my copies, is not only something that will deter me from the console, but also deter me from the brand, its affiliates, and just straight up boycott anything else in relation, as well as talk ill of the system, giving it the worst name I can to as many people as I can.

They don't pull this shit with music or movies (Though they would like to), and if video games want to be treated in league with those forms of media, then they should get off their pedastool that makes them think they're entitled to more than whats fair/than they deserve.

The current system of locking out DLC on other online/extra content is already a suffecient and smart way to support a game's extra content and server bandwidth, and they should stick to that.

i think it is just plain ridiculous. If games don't make you any money then don't make them (even though it would suck for us not to have games) or make games that sell well and are actually good. What companies are doing right now is more or less blame and screw the customers for not having good sales.

Won't buy a game console that doesn't allow you to play pre-owned games.

I think they should sell each game for $80-100 just to be safe on their idea of killing this console.

That would be absolutely ridiculous, and I don't think it would sell too well, there are a lot of people in the world who can't afford first hand games (and they still buy them) these people rely on shops like CEX etc. to be able to get the next game they want to play. This would be a very bad move to make in the gaming industry, I'd lose all respect for Microsoft if they did something as greedy and corporate as this.

By the way, is this just a wild idea or do you have any official source?

I guess one way of doing it would be like someone said in the other thread, just put a code card in each box like they do with DLC.
Then if someone buys a used game they would have to buy an activate code from live.
Depending on how much the code was it could still work out cheaper than buying new, but the idea sucks overall and I think it could cause M$ a mass boycott.
M$ would be doing it more for developers than themselves as they don't publish anywhere near as many games as other houses which makes me doubt that this rumor is even true.

How does their licencing work? Do they get a percentage from every copy sold, or do they just get a flat fee per title?

very strange, its like you are supporting the idea, i would hate if you worked for microsoft, as for the used game situation, sony have already done this with online passes, its killed the second hand market by quite a bit, i wouldnt be suprised if microsoft take it to the next level anyway, as a whole gaming is dead to me and i have no intrest in any future next gen consles, even the wii u is putting me off each time i hear more and more about it.

Its been like this on PC now for a while. A lot of PC games can't be sold on once the CD key is used.
However this would be wrong on consoles, I sometimes get nostalgic, go & buy an old console and play old games. This would destroy a console living on past its retail life.

Personally I will not buy any console that does this, I actually like being able to buy rare games at some point after their initial publishing run.

But no one cares since PC sales are generally good enough that they're like equal to buying used. Or you can just pirate them really easily.

Don't think this is possible..

Have each game come with a single-use code, when you boot up the game for the first time you have to enter the code to play it or (most likely) purchase another code to play it. Ethically sketchy? Oh yeah. But its worked for online gaming (particularly on the PS3) for a while now so what's not to stop them from implementing it on all games as a general playing option.

But if this was the case I'd probably avoid that console. It's quite nice to get a game used with a huge price reduction only a few months after its release. Or just if you miss a game and years later it crops up, generally you can nab a used copy for like $10. I buy new games occasionally but my money flow is hardly enough to support buying $50 or $60 games constantly.

There's also been plenty of measures recently to stop used gaming. I already mentioned the single-use code for online games but there's also the undeletable save for the 3DS.

which is only for a few games?

and you can still play used games even with undeletable save. It's not like 100% unplayable.

with the way things going, finding older games from this generation in the future will be near impossible and completely useless in terms of value too, with digital downloads pushed forward it's going to be even harder to find them too.

Your reading comprehension really sucks I said the idea sucks overall and I think it could cause M$ a mass boycott and in my first post: I would just end up waiting for games to drop from full price before I bought them (as I do now, but I'll buy preowned if they are cheaper)..
The poll is also pretty much how I thought it would be with over 50% saying they would not buy the console if it had this feature.
How is any of that even remotley supporting the idea?

It's still a noticeable detractor and it's a way to combat used game sales no matter how you look at it or what the companies say. You certainly don't want to be playing Mercs 3D under the profile "xXxPoonHunterxXx" and have to live with their shit-tier scores.
