Critics who treat adult as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.

In Froidian terms, the only difference between adulthood and childhood is what you want to achieve as the final goal. Children "play", this activity is for the most part mimicing adults in a variety of fashions. Once a person reaches adulthood, pretending is no longer a valid option, however, Libido - an essential part of the human psyche, dictates that forfeiting the rights to any kind of earthly pleasures is not possible.

Thus, fantasizing and day-dreaming is born as a substitute. You still "play", you just do it mentally and you focus your attention on slightly different areas of everyday life. You never really "grow up", adulthood is just a state of mind. You're pretty much the same person - you just play differently.

And that is why I watch K-On with the speakers cranked up.

Look at it this way. As a kid I could only imagine having a room of my house that drops down two feet from the bottom of the door and is filled with hundreds of comfy pillows.

As an adult I can actually build this shit!
