Vita wasn't alone in seeing a post holiday drop. 3DS fell over 50% to just above the 100,000 mark. PS3 and PSP also saw drops, but remained above the Vita in overall sales.
Here's the full hardware chart for 1/9 to 1/15, with last week's sales in parentheses.

  • 1. 3DS: 100,668 (240,819)
  • 2. PS3: 30,332 (74,459)
  • 3. PSP: 22,538 (71,033)
  • 4. PSV: 18,361 (42,915)
  • 5. Wii: 14,179 (49,525)
  • 6. DSi LL: 1,515 (3,971)
  • 7. X360: 1,519 (2,738)
  • 8. DSi: 1,206 (3,565)
  • 9. PS2: 766 (1,323)

Quite amazing. It's been 12 years and people *still* buy PlayStation 2's. 12 years. And who buys Gamecubes? XBoxes? Dreamcasts? Only collectors, and only "used".

This one console is quite hard to beat, it seems. What an amazing run it had.

The PS2 = one of the greatest consoles alive, that's why. So many amazing games for it that are still worth playing today.

My sister is one of those who'd buy a ps2 now... actually, she did buy a year ago I think... And why? Because her daughter wanted to play some games, and what better than a ps2 with some kid friendly games (she's like 7)... not too expensive, easy to use... big library of kid friendly games... Yeah...

Sounds like a Wii would be a better choice. PS2 is the equivalent of "action house" for me... well, the console is versatile enough to mean something else to everyone, I suppose.

Absolutely, buying consoles/handhelds post-zeitgeist is great. Most AP has been bypassed for the benefit of the ardent pirate, but legit users can pick up top range used and new games for a pittance. I'm still working my way through the DC and GC collections!

Many people consider the PS2 to be the greatest system in existence, including myself. Plus since the PS3 doesn't have BC, you either have you buy a PS2, and older PS3, or a really good computer.

Well, I still own my functional launch day ps2.
On other note, sales always drop in everything non-related to basic survival goods (food, beer :P, water, toilet paper) after december.

I'm just as pleasantly surprised about the continued success of the PS2. That'll do, PS2, that'll do.

I am disappointed to see that the Vita is continuing to struggle; hopefully Sony can get some momentum from the rest of the launches to pick up the slack.

The rest of the news isn't too shocking. The holiday season is passed, so a drop off in sales is only natural.

Meh, I'm honestly not worried about the Vita's sales, they'll get better. That said, I'll be eternally pissed if this affects the release of P4: The Golden.

You know, i'm starting to think the reason why ps2 is still alive, is because Sony didn't make the ps3 backwards compatible.

Well played, Sony XD

given a good price, i'd probably shell out for a PS2 with ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. not much else...

okay, i'd shell out some more for Armored Core. aaaaaand maybe some PSX classics, like Vagrant Story and Legend of Mana. that's it, i swear.
