Resident Evil: Attracting CoD fans 'the dream,' says Capcom. 'Action route makes sense'
'Resident Evil 5 is the biggest seller in the series,' says marketing head

It "makes sense" for Capcom to explore action "more fully" with Resident Evil, the publisher's said.

Capcom UK's head of marketing, Dave Turner, pointed out to MCV ahead of the Resident Evil 6 reveal that action-focused Resident Evil 5 is in fact the series' biggest seller, and even revealed aspirations to attract Call of Duty players.

Asked why the series has taken a more action-focused stance - specifically with Operation Raccoon City - Turner said:

"We've seen the popularity of Resident Evil increase massively as the series became more action oriented - Resident Evil 5 is the biggest seller in the series. So, it makes sense for us to follow this action area more fully."

He added of Operation Raccoon City: "The dream would be that the millions of Call of Duty fans that are enjoying these fast-paced online games are attracted to this Resident Evil."

For those who don't do gaming news past 10pm, Capcom released the first Resident Evil 6 trailer late last night, and initial feedback from readers has certainly been mixed.

love the Scott Pilgrim clip. ♥

but hell, instead of giving fans something unique, they're just jumping the FPS bandwagon and making a Gears of War clone. it's not CoD, man.
Seriously, shut the fuck up with the GOW clone, you people act as if GoW was the first Third Person game.

People blow shit out of the water way too much.

Nobody is ever happy with change, and people complain just to hear/see themselves talk.

Wait until the game is shown in proper form.

Gears is a clone of Space Harrier.

lol, touchy, aren't ya? ("-_-)

Resident Evil 1 was unique. fixed camera, confined quarters, NOWHERE TO RUN.

granted, if this one turns out to be 28 Days Later scary, where you can fight but you get overpowered easily, then yes i'd like the living shit out of it. but all this running and gunning is still Gears of War. i don't know what Space Harrier is, but i'm making comparisons off of titles that i know.

I think Resident Evil 4 was a good mix of old and new and was decently scary and challenging but RE5 just took that little bit and said screw it! its still a good game but I was really hoping it would be more survival horror. So while I can agree with the way Resident Evil 5 worked concerning controls, coop, and stuff like that, it felt less like a Resident Evil game than any other in the series.

SO while I'd love to see it include more actiony crap and for the series to evolve, I just hope Capcom remembers RE isn't a CoD or GoW type series but a survival horror and that RE6 brings back some more of the old stuff.

How can it be on the FPS bandwagon if it isn't a FPS?

And seriously though, just because it's a cover based TPS doesn't mean it'll be bad. Capcom aren't exactly wise with their press releases but this seems like it could be alright.

Y'know, I've stopped caring about Capcom after they've more or less swept Mega Man under the rug. The Scott Pilgrim clip really says all that needs to be said, though.

Oh come on guys.
At least let it fail before you declare it dead.

I think it could be good game, perhaps not a traditional RE game, but then would you put up with Resi 1 in todays age? I mean really? Especially if it had the modern sheen we have come to expect...
Lets be honest. Nostalgia aside, if a RE 1 knock off were released today it would be savaged.

Would it really? While I don't doubt that this may be good, I do disagree about the RE1 bit. The lack of music, lack of ammo, zombie moans, and placement, fixed cameras, empty areas and silent ambiance, and the fixed camera all melding together made RE1, and it would work today, it has the fear factor that stands the test of time.

That said, I didn't really like RE4 and 5, plus I'm a rebound prone kinemortaphobic, so I'll have to pass on this, anyway.

You know and I know that the way RE 1 played was great, but it is just not going to work for modern gaming sensibilities. The controls alone will turn most 12 year olds off...
Never mind the fact that you actually have to think for ten whole seconds to solve some of the puzzles. Add its lack of non-stop killing and you have a sure fire way to put a modern manchild to sleep.

Great games aren't vogue any more...money makers are. Just remember that when you boot up this years CoD.

Capcom's never been one to cater to the mainstream and bandwagoners- well, until now at least.
