Some games can't have save data wiped, right?
So buying them used is a bummer.. If you shut the power off during saving, doesn't it just restart the save?
Or can something bad happen from it?

I think someone said that if you corrupt a save on a 3DS game it would delete the save and make a new one.

That is indeed what would happen. Someone needs to test whether it works on a 3DS or not though. Most people just use Save Dongles, they're worth what, 2 bucks?

I believe somebody in the temp has reported that ejecting/powering off while saving didn't work for them. I don't remember where it is though. >_>

The save dongle would be the safest way to restart a game.

Or, you know, press the restart save button sequence...
If there is one... Which isn't for most games. In the Zelda Manual it says holding A B X and Y during the 3DS game boot logo deletes your saves. maybe for other games too?

Problem with powering off the 3DS while saving is it does not immediately cut power to the system.

Instead it can take some milliseconds to several seconds to completely power off.
This is likely done to prevent data corruption from happening since the 3DS can be downloading and saving data in the background.
In this case the only sure way is removing the battery but considering the above best to not attempt because it can cause damage.

I can confirm on the 3DS from save dongle testing that If the save data is corrupt/wrongly encrypted, it just erases all of the save data. But I doubt that powering off would really achieve this, since you can't just straight turn off the 3DS, like Randamin said. So you're left with the easiest soloution, which is using the save dongle.

Hmm... Back when I had a gba sp and sw: Jedi aapprentice for it I did the turn off while saving by accident and ended up unlocking everything. But I accidentally did it again and it erased EVERYTHiNG. And I was p***ed.
