Zelda-3DS-Rumor-e1326687786950.jpg

A recent rumor popped up over at 4chan and was featured over at ScrewAttack.com. The rumor cites the potential of two new Legend of Zelda titles for the Nintendo 3DS, much like Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages. The thumbnail image you see to the left is the logo that was posted over at 4chan and you can see a larger version of the image after the jump. The text underneath the images translates to Fire Prophecy and Ice Prophecy. Obviously these are just Rumors and they shouldn’t be taken as official announcements.
Back in November of 2011, Eiji Aonuma had commented on the next Legend of Zelda title for the Nintendo 3DS and he had this to say about it.

“We are already preparing a new game, a game in the series for the Nintendo 3DS, but don’t think that it is a direct sequel to the Zelda titles released on DS. We are talking about a new game, but it takes much of what has been done on previous consoles.”
Shortly after, Sam Claiborn of IGN reported on the upcoming Legend of Zelda titles and had this to say.

“Nintendo is working on at least two other Zelda games right now, and I can’t wait to see them.”
We initially believed that this meant a Legend of Zelda game was being developed for the Nintendo 3DS and another one was being developed for the Nintendo Wii U. Obviously this all just rumors at this point and 4chan is not exactly a reliable source. Virtually anybody around the world that has artistic ability could have photoshopped the above image and posted it over at 4chan anonymously.
However, given Nintendo’s recent statements and this rumor, it opens the case that Nintendo might do another dual-release Legend of Zelda title. They have been doing this with the Pokemon titles for the last 14 years and they have been incredibly successful. Even when they tried it with the Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons, those games were critical successes and sold very well. I certainly think there is a market for these types of games and I think it is certainly a plausible idea for Nintendo going forward.

IS a RUMOR remember that is 4chan

I'm calling BULL'S HIT on this one, for the following reasons:
  1. The Japanese text doesn't make sense gramatically. Anyone who's taken even elementary Japanese would know that the particle "を" precedes a verb (not a noun as it does in this case). Also, the term "アイス" (aisu) usually refers to "ice cream" in Japanese. In video games, particularly in RPGs, the element "ice" is 氷 (kōri). In other words, the logos were likely made by someone who doesn't know Japanese.
  2. (Probably the most compelling evidence): I get absolutely no hits for Japanese websites when I search for "火をプロフェシー" or "アイスをプロフェシー."
  3. It was posted on freaking 4chan. C'mon.

*EDIT*
When I first posted this, there were no Japanese sites. Now, at the time of this edit, two Japanese gamer blogs pop up when you search either "火をプロフェシー" or "アイスをプロフェシー." But they both say essentially the same things that I already said. The blogger in the second Google hit comments about how the を is out of place, and he says that he's laughing at the idea that people are probably taking this rumor seriously overseas.

That would be great if they don't release a 3rd version of it like they do with Pokemon games.
I would like to see a Zelda game where Hyrule is in it's early stages.
I think I would go with the fire version since I don't like swimming in games and the water version may lead to more of that.

Oracle treatment for the 3DS? Hell yes.

As long as the games are both completly different (like Oracle, worth the money) and not the same game with different features (Pokemon, a cash grab).

Oh I misread it.
In that case I have no idea which version I would choose.

I don't really believe it either, although it would be nice, especially if they keep it like the Oracles a little.

Oracle of Ages was more puzzle-oriented, Ice could be (seriously, who never had troubles with Ice puzzles ?)
Oracle of Seasons was action-oriented, Fire could also be.

Seriously, I can use MS Paint and draw some logo, print it out, and then take a blurry picture and that will start a rumor that will go far.

i just read the exact same news on 3 other forums

This times a million. I've been recently learning Japanese and this, grammatically, doesn't look right at all. Showed it to a friend of mine who is also learning Japanese (and is a lot farther than I am...) and she laughed. Hard. As Densetsu said, it's from fucking 4chan, chances of it being real is quite small.

I smell pokemon copy.

Ocarina of time/seasons did the same thing, but it wasn't pokémon at all. It features a different story in both versions and you could do a lot of stuff by linking the two games, most notably that you can only beat the game legit by linking (guess who the true end boss is, oink). The only thing it shares is the two versions thing, but in reality they are much more different than any two pokémon games of the same generations ever will be.

On topic: If I have to go by what Densetsu says, it is the biggest fake ever. His arguments are pretty solid. On the other hand, it's an awesome idea by nintendo, who doesn't want to play the legend of zelda: the ocarina of ice cream?
