During a roundtable with reporters at the Consumer Electronics Show, a reporter asked a question to Hirai attributing comments to the head of its videogame division, Andrew House, that there would be no announcement about a PlayStation 4 at the show.

Hirai, who appointed House for the job, said they are not talking about a new home console now and that they don’t plan to do so at E3.

“Andy (House) is absolutely right in that we are not making any announcements at E3,” Hirai said. “I’ve always said a 10-year life cycle for PS3, and there is no reason to go away from that.”

.... $599 US dollars...

Tbh, he could just be covering it up 'till then.

Its a little hard to charge $599 for a non existent console.
that wouldn't stop $ony :P

and soon after the wii u released sony announces the ps4 with a very similair controller :P
I'll just stop you right there: http://www.neogaf.co...ad.php?t=443646

Sony is usually the one to come up with this stuff first but they never use it (PS Move / Wii Remote)

Already read this somewhere else on the temp, but not in a separate topic so I guess it's fine.
Was to be expected, said this before, no way the PS4 is announced already.

sony comes up with stuff 1st? so they came up with the anlog controller 1st and the wiimote oh and they just didn't want to use it 1st huh?!!
Analog controllers, D-Pads and Infrared pointers weren't invented by Nintendo. They just patented certain variations. Try thinking before you speak.
Also, this (thanks prowler_).

DUAL analogs, not a single analog. Ever since the Playstation controller dual analogs have become a relatively common staple (PS2/PS3 controller, Xbox/Xbox 360 controller, Gamecube controller, Wii Classic Controller, etc).

Also, don't tell me to "get my facts right" when you couldn't even do that in your first post here. I guess I'll be the kettle and you can be the pot.

EDIT: But the topic at hand isn't Nintendo vs. Sony in terms of "who invented what", it's that there's no PS4 announcement at CES or E3 this year.

EDIT 2: And if you're going to make a Star Trek reference at least make one that's actually a reference. I'm a gamer Jim not a fanboy.

1. We shouldn't be too suprised.
2. Why would Sony even want to release PS4 so early when the PS3 plays/is capable to play pretty much any contemporary game anyways?

There is no need for a PS4 as of today. NextBox on the otherhand...

It not they small things that Nintendo invent, is what they did with it and actually successfully put it in the market is the innovation.
The only thing that may be before them is this vague concept strangely revile after the wii u was announce.

Anyway, kinda off-topic... Ninja'd

Yeah, I was talking about the pic emigre. I expect the xbox 720 to be revile second.

Agreed, especially considering the whole "Vita + PS3" thing they're trying to push. Between crossplay and "transfarring" it'd seem silly for them to design a few key/"innovative" features on a handheld around a console which would soon be replaced anyway. Plus with the next next-gen console (the Wii U) basically staying on the same level as the current gen PS3/Xbox 360, there's no real race to be running.

You know you'd love to say "NINTENDO DID IT FIRST" and quote some obscure patent of theirs if Sony came up with something "innovative". Let's take 3D gaming. Sure, Nintendo had the Virtual Boy but it was a flop and wasn't "successfully put in the market". Sony then came up with 3D gaming for 3D TVs and even came up with probably one of the most innovative uses of it by making splitscreen not actually split a screen. Now that's innovation.

But as you said and I said (yes, I'm contradicting myself again), we digress.

Releasing a PS4 that would be substantially "stronger" hardware-wise, provided it would be backwards-compatible with PS3 games and would retain the connectivity with the Vita would be incredibly expensive and the pricetag on the end product would be beyond the average Joe's wallet capacity.

Give it 2-3 more years when the PS3 won't be able to make-due anymore when compared to the WiiU and the very likely NextBox.
