HUGE EDIT : APPARENTLY ITS NOT 4.3D, it's 4.3B!!!! - Thanks "JoostinOnline"

Hey guys, I'm sure 20% of you guys got a message board letter claiming that Nintendo released a Wii System Update.

I was on 4.3 when I saw this a couple of days ago, and was thinking, "Lol, wut?" because I thought 4.3 would be the end.

As I read on, it said that "We have fixed many bugs within the Wii software and enhanced the System Menu performance. It is not a new system version as we have only applied bugfixes. Do not be alarmed if the version remains '4.3[Region-here]', as this is only a system enhancing bugfix."

Blah blah blah, (They mentioned "Bugfix" alot in this message/letter)

Then, as usual they used the old "threating" sentence. "... any unathorized modification and or illegal program use may result in non-functionality..."

So, here's my question!

Is it safe to update? Is it even necessary to update at this point?
Any ideas?

Note : I was too lazy to re-read the message, so don't complain if my quotes aren't 100% perfect. I retyped it from what I read 5minutes ago. It should be pretty much on-track, but don't be picky if its not perfect.

Edit: To get the message, temporarily turn WiiConnect24 ON [Turn on that standby crap too!]. Wait a couple of minutes, then restart your Wii. Check your "Inbox" [Wii Message Board] and scroll back a few dates. [I'm not sure if it pops up still, for me it popped up on Dec 29.] After that, don't forget to turn off Wiiconnect24, it's a pain in the ass!

Could somebody please test and see if mailboxBomb still works?

I don't care what Nints says, this sounds like an update.

This is should be front-paged if true (especially if it kills homebrew).
There isn't an update. Even if there was, it wouldn't be named 4.3D, it would be 4.3c or 4.4 (maybe 5.0).

I acknowledge that you're correct about the name, but there still appears to be an update for me.
Is there any information on 4.3b? Mind sending me to a thread/etc?

This came out like a year ago. All it did was install all Korean IOS's (and reinstall all other active ones), which blocked the Trucha Bug Restorer.

You must have never gotten the letter about it before. That would happen if you weren't connected to the internet or you didn't have WC24 enabled (plus not spending time in the System Menu).

If someone were to restore their Wii to a point before the letter was sent out, they would get it again. I've gotten it from a bootmii restore.

About this update:
There's a bug in Firmware Updater 4.3 when patching the System Menu from USA and JAP firmwares, so the homebrew channels get removed after the update. Firmware Updater 4.3b fixes the bug so USA and JAP users can use it now with no worries. If you are a PAL user and you already used Firmware Updater 4.3 you do NOT have to use this one.

this came out before 06-22-2010

The System Menu isn't firmware, and it isn't even included in 4.3b. It's just the IOS's.
