More information is needed...

You say you connected a "Verbatim 320gb 2.5hdd", but how?
Is it a native external 2.5" hdd, a drive that you put into an external enclosure, or are you using a IDE/SATA to USB cord to connect it?
(Some external drives/enclosures require a USB "Y" splitter cable that uses 2 USB ports to supply the needed additional power)
Also, what type of partition are you trying to use (NTFS, FAT32, WBFS)? Is it the Primary & Active partition?

It's a portable external hardrive, connected with a usb cable from the enclosure to the Wii - port 0
Formatted as Fat32 with a folder named 'wbfs', have also tried a sandisk cruzer 16gb flash usb drive formatted in fat32 - didn't work so formatted to ntfs - still no joy
Both drives are primary & active partitions, not tried wbfs format yet, is it worth having a go?

If I can't sort why I can't mount the usb drive, then will go through UNEEK+ DI.... cheers mate

I don't remember if the FAT32 cluster size matters anymore, but I know it did in the past (Maybe something to look into, I believe 64kb was the standard).
I recently switched from my drive from 2 partitions (FAT32 for NAND Emulation / WBFS for Wii) to just using FAT32... this is much easier to manage now.
I don't know how your drive was formatted, but I'd suggest downloading the "Wii Backup Manager" software (http://www.wiibackupmanager.tk/WiiBackupManager_Build78.html) and having that format your drive to FAT32. After it is formatted, you need to go to Disk Management in windows (Start > Run > diskmgmt.msc) and right click the drive and set as Active.

Add your games and test again.
I would also suggest trying WiiFlow for your USB Loader, if you are not already

Formatted the drive with Wii Backup manager into FAT32, partition set as primary - active. Added a game with the same program
Plugged into port 0, before I turned on the Wii, tried to unplug & plug back in again when it was running
Tried other loaders on Wii again, still nothing so tried WiiFlow, still does'nt see the drive?
What else can I try??

Have also used the media prog (can't remember name) can play films through the Wii
HELP.... I've hardly any hair left to pull out

Sound like a problem i had before ,, Can u try an old sd card or micro sd with adapter , and place ur apps on there with your cfg folders , the games will usually load from the hdd but not from hdd in some cases.

Try placing a homebrew in usb:/apps/folder you want/boot.dol
See if HBC 1.0.7+ (based on IOS58) can see it by selecting USB as input device in HBC options.

It looks like since I found a Wii incompatible with cIOS (ehci_module) I think everyone has the same problem :O
It might be more spread than we think.

Only cIOS d2x base 58 (usb_module) worked with USBloaders.

If it works fine with HBC, please run this homebrew.
Check the log on your SD card. If it says USB status 0x3002 then your Wii can only use cIOS with base58.
Not all games are working with a base58, you'll have to test and find yourself.

Maybe they are from a different maker, pid/piv, needs a different drivers, etc.
