I lost interest in the FF series from X and on. The only more recent game that I liked was FF: the four heroes of light.
I suggest for Square enix to end the "futuristic RPG" crap and go back to the roots of FF: a fantasy fairytale story.

Why do people claim they lost interest after FF:X?
The only main games after that were, X-2, 12 and 13 and IMO that is not enough to claim that a company has gone to ruins.

Oh and FF12 wasn't horrible.

I liked XII, well, I didn't really like the way the battles worked, but story and characters wise it was pretty nice... Also, Square Enix won't go bankrupt if a Final Fantasy game fails, they still have many other series, namely Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, Front Mission, Star Ocean, Valkyrie Profile, etc... Erm, isn't VII and VIII futuristic? Sure graphically it's not as futuristic as XIII but it would be on the same level.

Oh and FF12 wasn't horrible.

FFXII is amazing, only if you're playing IZJS though.

ff games always moved towards the modern age.
it started with old civilizations that could build flying machines, slowly worked its way towards robot soldiers and machine monsters of legend, finally made it to a king that was totally into technological crap, he even rebuild his castle to move over the continent. and then, we ended in modern times, so modern shit went to hell at some point even.

after than, we were in a pretty mixed environment again and by 12, there was only airships and one laboratory that seemed truely modern again.
k, the stories arent fairytale anymore, but really, how often would you want to set out and save a kingdom?

personally, im happy that final fantasy actually changes its gameplay and features and all that up. though sometimes i would like to see a few things from the old times again. ability system with guardian force was my favorite game mechanic ever , too bad its only in one game

Hmm not really surprised it seem the wind changed for the franchise, so has my views on it.. I will not buy it even though i liked the XIII for the interesting storyline and awesome technic. I like to control each of my team turn by turn. also, maybe just a feeling but i hated the X-2 fan service and this one somehow appear as such to me. Waiting FF XIII Versus, i'll pass here ^^
