Topic.
Need a replacement cart. I know that the DSTWO has an onboard processor, emulates GBA games, media player, etc. AK2i is cheap.
Am I missing anything? What's the feel of each cart? Which should I buy for my 3DS? I don't expect to do much GBA emulation (I have ambassador and emulation will kill my 3DS battery). If I get the DSTWO and use it only for games, will the battery continue draining at an accelerated rate?

Yep, it's been a long time since I've had to ask about flashcards.

Eh, well, youll probably get a longer lasting flash cart out of the dstwo, the acekard is known for build errors that cause the DS to not recognize the cart because the contact isnt good enough, this can be fixed with the paper trick. the dstwo has a better over all build, but if you dont care about the extras, then the ak2i is where its at, i have both cards and they have basically the same compatibility, nearly 100%, akaio firmware for ak2i is a must, and they also can be patched to work with official nintendo updates, so no worries there with either card. Have to say i use my ak2i more though, doesnt drain the battery as bad, even if you arent emulating with dstwo the battery still dies significantly faster.

Okay, the paper trick is easy enough for me to do. DSTWO battery life is a concern for me. Guess I'll get the AK2i

oh, one more thing, a MAJOR advantage that the dstwo has is real time save and in game menu, that is actually the reason i sprang for one.

I believe CycloDS iEvolution has good battery life, is about on level with Supercard in terms of compatibility and is the only DSi-Mode flashcart.
CycloDS is outdated and isn't supported much if at all anymore.

Hope you are joking, I would rather an R4i over a Cyclo DSI

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
you've seen how much intel is struggling getting into the gpu market
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
and nvidia is already doing ARM
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think they want to take more focus away from their gpus

Yeah I think Nvidia s future lays in AI GPU acceleration stuff if they can get that going it's going to be super interesting in the long term

AI assisted game creation might become a thing

At least that's something I think would be pretty cool.

Many TBs of assets and the programming of something like that is going to be tough but I think it's something we might see in 20 years maybe sooner
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero

before that there was one to generate a fully modeled scene from a 2D image

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but most recently, there was one that actually generates a working unity scene with terrain and textures already set up that you can import right into unity, that's a huge time saver right there

and using LLMs to generate NPC dialogue and even dynamically generated quests is something i'm sure is already happening
