final-fantasy-xv-400x258.jpg

Some people, for some reason, were disappointed with the last 3 or 4 main integer Final Fantasy games. Perhaps it's rose-tinted glasses or perhaps it's just changing trends within the industry, but these modern day games just don't seem as good as when we were kids.To celebrate Final Fantasy's 25th anniversary, Square Enix are supposedly announcing the next game in the main series, Final Fantasy XV, at next year's E3. This is according to GamesMaster UK who also say that the game is in development for the PC and Wii U, as well as the 360 and PS3. This'll be the first time a Nintendo system sees the release of a non-spin-off Final Fantasy in over a decade and the very first time the PC is seeing anything other than an afterthought port outside of Final Fantasy XI.

What does "the very first time the PC is seeing anything other than an afterthought port outside of Final Fantasy XI" mean?

FFVII PC becomes okay once you use ficedula to load an actual soundtrack instead of midi files.

I doubt this rumour is true, given FFXIV isnt on ps3 yet, and we're still waiting for verses XIII.
Unless they rename verses XIII as XV, which would make some sense to me as its not really related to the other FNC games.

And trust me, I'll be EVEN MORE disappointed by XV, I'm certain of that.

Especially if the "Action RPG" rumors were true.

SE can do a good Action RPG, look at Type-0, Crisis Core (well, it was a little boring but it got addictive as hell) and Kingdom Hearts.

You just mad because you want everyone to go back to the PS1/SNES days :P

Nah, I like differentation, but I'd just prefer if Square Enix didn't COMPLETELY forget about the gamers who like the first FFs (I-IX) and their game-systems...

They could just name it Final Fantasy "Something", and I wouldn't have to complain. But why tarnish the main series like that? :(

Oh well, the trend shown with FF XI and FF XIV (naming MMORPGs as a MAIN titles?!) already shows how much SquareEnix cares for the main series.

I'll just have to deal with it :(

Final Fantasy used to be a game that had lots of magic and fantasy in it,
It still is?
Yeah it does, I didn't really explain what I meant... Hum... The old games were more magical... Like... They had castles, kinds, guardians and all that stuff but without all the technology... The new ones also have castles and kings and all that stuff, but it has more technology, they don't quite feel like the same world... I don't really know how to explain.

final fantasy sucks. the series should have been laid to rest long ago 'cause square-enix can't handle it anymore. enix is really the only portion holding that company together, and that's because other companies develop their games.

You don't throw away the chicken that lays your golden eggs. =S
Final Fantasy overall is a really good series, although personally I prefer Dragon Quest games, I also enjoy FF ones and most of them are amazing games. The only problem is that they're starting to run out of original ideas, and the ideas that they have, end up ruining the games. =S

You said you want Square Enix to go back to magical kingdoms and fairy tales. You call that an original idea?

Edit: Final Fantasy would be better without Toriyama. He's so bad.

the problem is that square-enix is contaminated with people who can make things look nice but little else. I definitely wouldn't watch a movie that was all show and no substance. that is essentially what final fantasy has become. square-enix has been going the graphics route since I can remember, and unfortunately for them it doesn't really cut it. most, if not all, games have similar graphics capabilities to final fantasy so I don't see what makes final fantasy special. if anything, it's just another duke nukem.

Having Magical Kingdoms and Fairy Tales doesnt mean the game can't have original ideas...
All Dragon Quest games have the same bases, yet all games have original stories and ideas, specially DQ V.

In my opinion, in order for Final Fantasy XV to be a success it needs a strong story, get rid of the linearity, needs more interesting characters, a ton more side quests, and needs a higher difficulty that would require me to grind a bit rather than just going with the flow.

Well that's easier said than done.
One of the complaints about FFXIII-2 is being 'too open'.

Square Enix will never win but they'll keep making games anyway and I'll still love them.
