I know wii now is kinda cheap. is it worth it to buy one now? never played one before. Can you guys summarize all the things I need to know about WII? pros and cons and game library? Thanks! I've been thinking of bringing one home this Christmas

Furthermore on this topic I would say go for a Wii. There are a lot of good games out there; Zelda, Mario, Sim City Creator, Xenoblade, FIFA, Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil Zero, Black Ops, Monster Hunter Tri and so on...I could go on even more, not to mention all the emulation possibilities! I am moving home for christmas and will bring my Wii with me. The christmas is great for some casual gaming!

Get a wii, mod it, and enjoy it. The Wii actually has quite a few games if you can wade through the trash to find them. Though, even with that said, I would never buy a wii game. So if you don't plan on being a pirate...don't bother, and wait for the WiiU.
That'll be interesting...a console with a money slot next to it, where you have to put in money each time you want to play a non-wiiU game.
Yeah, yeah...I know. You meant to say "illegally downloaded copies of the game". But seriously: the wiiu will be able to play wii games. For free. In addition, you'll be able to reuse the same controllers on the wiiU.
...and that by itself already makes the wii worth it, if you ask me. I picked up a second hand wii (including two wiimotes and a nunchuk) for about 100 euros. The new ones are barely more expensive, though they won't have gamecube connections. Still...if you haven't played any wii game whatsoever, then it's absolutely worth it. There are plenty of good and fun games for it.
(note: if you're used to PS3 or Xbox360 quality, things won't look as fancy. But it's at least equally good in the fun department).
hm... I love my Wii more then my PS3 LoL they hardely advertise any of the good games for the Wii I think.

thanks for the input guys! I think I might just buy one this weekend a few more questions:
1.) Is there anything I have to watch out for? I mean all WII can be hacked right?
2.) essential peripherals? I wont be buying many so I only need the most essential. I'll be playing zelda and mario titles (sorry if its outdated I dont know a lot of games on WII)

The Zapper, balance board and wii wheel aren't that important.
I'm not sure if all wiis can be hacked but you should be able to find a good deal on one.

1) all wiis can be hacked (and it doesn't seem likely that nintendo will release a 4.4 firmware update that'll change that). Without the need of a certain game, even.
2) Zelda Skyward sword requires a motion plus, so make sure you have one (either within the wiimote or the extra cube-thingy on the wiimote). You'll also need a nunchuck for quite some games, but that comes with the wiimote.

-component cables give better screen quality.
-a second wiimote for local multiplayer

Im thinking of getting a balance board, but I dunno... Its a shame theres not many real games that uses it. A boxing game would be quite fun. Lean to dodge etc
Edit: also, if you buy a new wii, the motion plus is included.
So far what Ive bought to my black Wii (m+ included) is an HDD and component cables and..... um.. thats it
Theres really no need for anything else (except maybe a balance board, if thats something that interest you)
the wii is worth the purchase for the homebrew alone. the emulators r miles above those found on the 360 or the ps3. although the wii doesn't have a lot of note-worthy games, I personally think the best games on the wii r miles above the other two systems.

Nobody else? Watch out to get a Wii with the gamecube controller and memory card ports. The ones without them aren't really cheaper, and they are definitely not better in any way. I haven't seen them in shops myself, but i read that the bad ones are lying on the pictures and the good ones are standing. (which is absurd considering that the Wii should always lie to preserve the drive as much as possible...) Apparently the gamecube support or the lack of it is not to be found as text on the box.
There is a game for it: Punch-out. But while it is a pretty entertaining game, I must warn you that the balance board support is an "on-off" situation. So either you dodge all the way or not at all. On the plus side: wii fit was already very good, and wii fit plus (the "sequel", though it just adds more stuff) gives you even MORE very good minigames. I doubt you'll even WANT another game after that. And yes, it includes a sort-of boxing workout as well.
@Wiipower: erm...I already put that mention in my first post in this thread.
...but what's that about the wii best to lie down to preserve the drive? Does that make much of a difference?
I don't know how the Wii drive hold the disc internally, if it has a good grip of the disc like the ps2 slim has or portable CD players had, then i guess it doesn't matter. But if not, then the disc will have a more varying distance to the laser all the time.
Hell yeah it's worth it, for the homebrew and emulators alone if you ask me but i'm retro. Get some rechargeable batteries and a charger, and a decent sized sd card is essential. Gamecube, classic controller, or extra Wiimotes are nice but not necessary.
