There was a game I saw advertised on TV a few years ago. It was definitely a DS game, but I can't remember the name of it!

Here's what I remember:
  • Looked like it would be similar to some of the more recent Persona games
  • The story appeared to be generic (i.e. some kid gets into danger and suddenly has to save the world)
  • The setting was some present-day city, probably in Japan
  • It was 2D and since there wasn't any fake-stylus-on-fake-DS-screen shots, it was probably button controlled or at least had the option
  • It appeared to be either an action-adventure or an SRPG without turns
  • One main (at least he looked like a main) character appeared to be some little shy kid who, from the dialogue sample that was quickly scrolled through, probably couldn't fight in the beginning. He had black hair and glasses, and wore a modern-day Japanese boy's school uniform.
  • Another main (at least she looked like a main) character appeared to be some aloof girl who kicks butt. She had brown hair up in a ponytail and was wearing what appeared to be a pink track uniform. She was a bit tanned, as well.
  • The dialogue is done with larger anime shots of the speaker appearing behind the text box. The larger anime shots changed depending on their reaction/mood. The mouths also flapped.
That's all I remember from the commercial, and I definitely know I didn't see it again. Can anyone help me figure out what it was?

No, I definitely didn't see anything familiar in that trailer.

Edit) Chell and Alessa are continuously telling me that the game I'm looking for is Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor. However, as I recall from that game, none of the controllable characters are sporty tan girls or shy boys with glasses. In addition, the art of Devil Survivor appears to be different than the art of the game I saw.

No, it wasn't anything like that.

The story of the game I'm trying to identify was about saving the whole world. The World Ends With You is about trying to save yourself and a few other people.

I'm pretty sure I've played all the localised japanese games (rpgs, srpgs and adventure) and I can't really recall one with those exact details...
There's Lux Pain... But the main char certainly isn't shy nor does he wear glasses or have black hair... There's also Advance Wars Days of Ruin, it's kinda current day compared to the other Advance War games and has a cooler art style and more serious story...
Hum...

Ugh... There's too many to figure out which one... But highschool theme... Are you sure it's for the DS?

There aren't many trailers/advertisements that have a Nintendo DS on screen to show both screens in action as they would be on the actual handheld.

Well, thing is I never saw trailers for the games I play, they don't show on TV in the country I live at, only Mario and Zelda get adds. xP
Don't you know who the publisher is? Like, Atlus, NIS, etc?
It could have shown in the add. >.

Can you provide any more information? A little info about the monsters/special moves(if any). I think I've seen a game somewhat like this one.... can't put my finger on it. :x

I actually didn't catch the end of the ad. The last I saw of it was that flash of the title that usually comes right before any release dates and publisher/developer logos.

Well, no. I only ever saw that TV ad. What information was there didn't include anything about the monsters. There were a few generic zombie and flame (it was literally a little blue flame) enemies in the action demonstration, but that was about it.

Did some searched and no results. All I can think of is Detective Conan for some reason.

All I can think of is The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. But that makes about as much sense as the game I'm thinking of being a Detective Conan game.

In all seriousness, though, there are no Detective Conan games on the DS released in the US.

Um...sorry for the double post, but it would really make my day if someone could help me...

...I reaally don't mean to be offensive with this but are you sure the game actually exists? What you described sounds pretty much like an anime-themed game/possibly a Luminous Arc sort of game..... Very few of them have been localized for DS, and even fewer have characters like the ones you mentioned (Especially the 'tanned' girl wearing pink clothing...)

Sorry, none of the games I've played come to mind.. I even tried googling for a while :T

Sure it wasn't a GBA game or something?

EDIT: Sounds suspiciously like one of the Negima GBA or DS games.... (see screenshot) but like frick would any of those ever be localized :'D

Well, the art style was different from the Negima games, as well. However, the text boxes WERE similar in style to the one in that screenshot.
