Hacking Please help me choose wich one to buy

Well i've been searching a bit about wii and its modding methods,and i've heard that the hardmod is safer than just softmod and also heard about a fairly recent update that screwed a lot of things up for softmod,i've read a lot about it and thou it has answered some questions it raised quite a few others, so i would like the help of those of you who know what you're talking about on the subject to help me decide.

I was searching for a hardmodded wii but cant find one that isnt at least 150% o the regular priced wii so i've been really considering buying a regular one and just softmodding it myself since there are quite a few tutorials that explaing step by step and people say its a fairly simple process as long as you stick by those tutorials,so my first question is this is there any unbricked wii that is impossible to softmod? i've heard after 4.3 update is uses a slightly different method of softmodding but it is still possible to do so,is there any new "barrier" post 4.3 update?
there are also already softmodded wiis for sale however those cost around 125% of the regular wii's price so i ask is it worth it?Anything too complicated that would justify the extra price?

Is there any game that just doesnt run trough the usbloader?

it seems some games need some twitching to run properly or so i've heard,are there a lot of those?and can i usually find instructions somewhere around the forum?

thanks in advance if anyone can answer those questions for me,its all im waiting for to make a choice and go buy the wii, also i would like to note that even i i do end up getting a hardmodded one i intend to use the homebrew channel and usb loader since it makes the usage of dvds unecessary

I don't know where you heard about an update that screwed us softmodders over, but that is certainly false information.
Modmii by Xflak (Our wonderful member here) can help you softmod your Wii safely, no matter what the version.

Hi, to explain it in short way get a regular wii, a usb hdd and use modmii to hack it then. You will be able to hack your wii without any brick or something like that and you'll be able to play all games.
edit: Oh and about the games you heard there, yeah they are currently 2 or 3 games which need some workarounds.

There were many times that updates did screw over softmods, but those periods of being "screwed over" latest for a very short period of time and then apps were updated and everything was fixed so softmods can work once again.

Go with a softmod. It is easier in the long run.

Today, its very unlikely nintendo will release any new update for the Wii, so the odds of getting "screwed over" is very small. Theres also apps that you install when you mod the wii which can block online updates and disc updates etc (Priiloader).

Basicly, the only way to get screwed is if you screw it up . But if you take the precautions and use your brain youre safe.

thanks a lot for all the answers,i have one more question thou of course im alway extremely careful when dealing with my videgames,specially regarding updates and such but in the chance i somehow screw up and brick a softmodded wii is there anything at all that can be done to unbrick it?

Yes there is. Just make sure you make a nand backup using bootmii and store it in a safe place. The nand bAckup is a backup of the wii's internal flash memory and the wii's per console keys. Making the nand backup will create 2 files on your SD card, nand.bin and keys.bin, just save those in a very safe place and never delete them and then no matter what your wii is able to be recovered from a software brick. Hardware failures are a different story, but they dont get caused by soft modding.

Make sure you install priiloader, that can help you in certain types of brick scenarios. Bootmii can always be installed as an IOS, but on earlier model wii's bootmii can also be installed into boot2, and if you do have bootmii installed into boot2 then you can fix any type of brick yourself. If you only have bootmii installed as an IOS and you somehow end up with a fully bricked wii (thats when not even priiloader can be booted, the wii just gives a black screen when you power it on) then the only way to fix it is to send the wii and your nand backup to someone (like me since you are in the US) or learn how to do delicate solder work and purchase an infectus programmer.

As long as you follow all the step of the guide exactly then you won't have to fear getting a brick. As everyone here will tell you, use modmii to mod your wii.

ah yet another question any chance i can use an SD adapted Micro-SD card?i got a few of those if not i'll have to buy a sd card wich is no big deal just in order to keep me well informed

You can. It's the same card, just in an adapter, is all.

If it is a micro SDHC then you will need to be on System Menu 4.0 or higher tO be able to use it for exploit. SDHC cards dont work for the disc based exploits. But that is easy enough, you can just do an official nintendo update and you'll be on 4.3 and you can use letterbomb.

thanks a lot i have an sdhc card but also have a "regular" one just in case thank you all very much for the answers really helped me quite a lot now im feeling sort of confident with this whole thing,hope everything turns out allright,will probally go buy the wii tomorrow or monday.once again thank you all very much^^

I'd almost suggest trying to buy a used one from gamestop so you can hopefully get one that is bootmii boot2 compatible. If you would like, print out THIS PAGE and bring it with you to gamestop. You can ask to see the serial numbers on the wii before you purchase it and compare the serial numbers to the ones in that link so you can be sure you have gotten a wii that is bootmii boot2 compatible. Gamestop kind of can't refuse that, and if they try to you can just say "Well if you wont let me check the console out for damage and such then I will take my money elsewhere", and that will shut them up and get them to open the box for you.

well i've bought a wii installed everything according to guide already made the backups however im having a bit of a problem regarding the usb loader (the configurable one that was recommended) i've copied a metroid prime 3 ntsc-u iso to a 8gb pendrive formatted to ntsf however the usb loader just wont recognize the iso,am i doing something wrong?also can i load any area game using usb loader ou loading a pal game for example will screw up my wii?

Have you placed it in usb:/WBFS/ ? Id suggest to use Wii Backup manager though and covert it to .wbfs (WBM does that for you). It saves space and WBM also places the game in the correct location so the loader can find it.

You are better off to use a FAT32 partition and convert the games to .wbfs

thanks a lot it was probally just the correct folder althou i did convert it to wbfs now its working i will probally still pass it to FAT32 and find out how the wiiware wads work exacly once again thank you all for the support you made a hard choice for me so much easier^^

are there any advantages or disadvantages of using trough an emulated nand?and sorry if its asking too much but anyone knows whre i can find up to date guides in this kind of thing,many guides i find dont display date in wich were written and i dont know if much changes between system versions

EDIT:btw do virtual console and wiiware games work the same way or do they work differently?
