Despite Sony’s PS Vita not being available until February of 2012, GameStop has already posted pricing for the device and its various components back in November. However, gamers reactions to the high prices of the memory cards may have resulted in Sony’s recent claims that the GameStop pricing isn’t official yet and that gamers should stay tuned for more details.

According to Kotaku’s Stephen Totilo, multiple Sony reps confirmed with him this week that the GameStop pricing is not final and that the proprietary PS Vita memory cards are not a hidden cost . GameStop listed the 4GB memory card at $29.99, but Sony reps say that it should be $24.99. The 8GB memory card is listed as $49.99 but it, too, should be corrected to $39.99.
Sony revealed earlier this week that Gamers wanting to use multiple PSN accounts on one PS Vita device would have to use multiple memory cards. PSN accounts are tied to each card and therefore gamers wanting to switch accounts on a single card would have to do a complete factory reset. Multiple card can be used one PSN account.

Good news, but still WAY overpriced, it still strikes me as Sony ripping more money from their customers. The only reason it wouldn't be a "hidden cost", as they worded it, is if they were the same price as SD cards, the Vita accepted SD cards, or if they weren't required for ANY Vita game. None of those 3 are true. Sony is still ripping us off.

A whole $5 off!

:O

Would you rather have the original price? It's still 5 dollars less; take what you can get.

At this rate, Sony could announce that they're giving away eternal youth with each Vita sold and people would still complain that they're being ripped off.

My problem with this is that the Vita cards look like very slightly modified M2 cards. And when the 16GB M2 (which I can use as storage for my PSP or as a spare memory card for either of my laptops with a MS adapter, or any PC with a USB adapter) is half the price of a Vita memory card (which given Sony's statements so far can be used in and with the Vita exclusively) with half the memory, it ought to be pretty obvious that something's wrong. I won't be buying until the price of these cards is only slightly higher than the M2 card of the same capacity.

ITT: "HAI GAIZ WHY NO SSD SAME AS HDD PRICING LOL? I HAZ 5000GB HDDS FOR PRICE OF 500 GB HDD LOL! THEY ARE CHEAPOS!" Replace SSD with PSV memory cards and HDD with MicroSD..

OT: Seriously. What do you expect from a new memory card? Look at prices from older formats and you will see that they cost a hell of a lot of money in the beginning, but become cheaper on the long run (volume, volume, volume. That makes a difference)..
