Gaming Converting 3ds video files to play in 3d on youtube

This is how to convert the videos your 3ds takes to a format youtube can understand. A batch file to follow in a later post.

you will need FFmpeg.exe. You can get that here:
32-bit: http://ffmpeg.zerano...s/win32/static/
64-bit: http://ffmpeg.zerano...s/win64/static/

Extract the 7zip file , and the exe is in the bin directory.
Place your video file from your 3ds in this same directory and rename it clip.avi

Now here are the FFmpeg commands:


ffmpeg -i clip.avi -map 0:0 -map 0:1 -vcodec rawvideo -s 240x240 -vf pad=480:240:0:0:violet left.avi
ffmpeg -i clip.avi -map 0:2 -map 0:1 -vcodec rawvideo -s 240x240 right.avi
ffmpeg -i "left.avi" -vf "movie=right.avi [ovl]; [in][ovl] overlay=240:0 [out]" -q 1 done.avi

This will output 3 files left.avi , right.avi , and done.avi
You can delete left.avi and right.avi.
done.avi is the file you will upload to youtube.

Once the upload is complete:

Log into your YouTube account
Go to your video once it's been uploaded
Click on Edit Info above the video
Select 3D Video on the right hand side of the banner
Choose Side by side: Left video on the left side

Thats it, now your video is on youtube in 3d format.

Simply put this batch file in the same dir as FFmpeg and drag/drop your video file onto the icon.

Indeed, and as they are very likely using ffmpeg through php, it will be simple for them to do it

Nintendo is not a company which develops computers, Smart TVs etc. which have YouTube. Hence, they might not have a deal with YouTube that easily... yet.

That's just my guess.

They've done stuff with iPlayer and Netflix, I don't see why they can't strike a deal with Youtube for the app that EVERYONE wants.
The first 3D web-video player device, Nintendo would be foolish to pass that up.

There's no money (or royalties) in free content. Netflix probably paid Nintendo to get their service on the 3DS.

Or maybe it's not strictly a matter of profit. Maybe Nintendo just isn't interested in Youtube, and vice-versa. One of them will have to show strong interest in developing a partnership before we see anything "official" out of any of them. But I'm betting it'll be Youtube first, just for the sake of being able to support everything.

If everyone started posting 3DS videos to YouTube, it wiould clearly be a win for Nintendo, because their console would get free publicity -> more consoles would be sold. It would be a wise move, considering PSVita is coming soon.


For Youtube, this would mean more traffic -> more possibilities to sell ads. A win-win situation. Plus, 3DS videos use widely-known standards (AVI, MJPEG, IMA ADPCM), so I guess it would not be so difficult for Youtube to implement compatibility measures (I believe they just use FFMPEG or a similar encoder internally, so it would be just a matter of proper configuration).

This one was done with the above command lines (not your program) and it definitely works with red/blue glasses.
In the player do you have the viewing method set to red/cyan?

Not the first, there are some 3D Android phones (e.g. the LG Optimus 3D) that can already play 3D YouTube video using the same/very similar glasses free 3D technology to the 3DS. And I think shoot videos in 3D and upload it directly to YouTube as well.
