PS3 to Support a Wider Demographic

Sony is making plans for the survival of the PS3 which will include a wider demographic. As the price of the system drops more younger gamers will have access to the system. Sony is planning to use this to their advantage and focus on the family aspect of gaming. They promise that hardcore gamers will not be neglicted, so lets not worry yet!

No, they're just saying that the PS3 will still be around in 2016. Given the 11-year-and-still-going Ps2, why should we not think they will pull it off with the PS3?

But the ps2 was waaay more popular that the ps3. And I don't really see sony catering to their hardcore ps2 fans anymore

I bought a PS3 once...sold it and got all the money back. Never liked the controls, but whatever. I might get it again one day when it is cheaper. I don't see this strategy working for them so late in the game. Both Kinect + Wii already take up so much of the "younger" crowds attention. The demographic is going to be hard to crack into at this point.

i still wish i could play ps2 games on my ps3 slim. i would keep my ps3 around much longer than its life span if it had that backwards compatibility.

I own a ps3, but I can't say I'm very impressed with it. it just doesn't feel like a game console really. there may be a ten year life-cycle in the system, but only a fool would believe that the ps4 won't be out by then. I predict one to two years before the ps4 launches.

Why the hate people? I have to say that the PS3 is one interesting console with tons of excellent games waiting to be found. This can be said for many of this gen's consoles, but still. I don't see a big problem with having the PS3 around for a few more years.. Regardless of wether a PS4 is released in the next few years or not.

you could have gotten a PS3 with 4 games (3 of them being move enabled) and the whole move set (inc gun controller and navigation controller) for $320 this past black friday

ah, sony will never do that, they are making far too much money from HD collections.

They may actually do bc for PS2. They already have games for sale and there is a patent by sony for a fully emulated emotion engine and I think they even had emulated emotion engine in one or more of the phat versions with broken compatibility. I would love to ditch the PS2 from my stand and simply have my slim PS3 for all three systems.
