I have an M3 Real V1.49a 3rd. Unfortunately for me, I've noticed the M3 team have stopped updating it, and now, many of the newer games I want to play don't work.

What I'd like to know is what alternative firmware is the best to use. I'd rather use just one, instead of the multibooting, to save space.

I know that there is a list of alternatives, but instead of trying them all one by one, I'd just like to know.

YS menu, or thats what im using.
Use the quad-boot
You really dont save any good amount of space by not having the quad boot.
And M3Sakura has this quick launch option, so just spamming A will instanly boot up YS menu if the last game you launched with the M3Sakura was YSmenu

Ok, YS menu, but there are so many variants on it. Which one? And like I said, I really am trying to conserve space, so I'd rather use one firmware.

Also, I am a little disconcerted about using Sakura to boot into another firmware. It sounds so iffy.

YSmenu can be used natively with M3. Just do as the spoiler says (highlighted in red). I don't really know if that's the same as YSM3, so I'd suggest you just DL it from RGF's official release thread and place the required files in there.
Natively Working (Replaces ORIGINAL Firmware) :

DSTT-Advance - www.dstt-adv.com -> Just copy files (Use DSTT_DSTTi folder)

The m3 quad-boot, as stated above. Among the quad-boot, YSM3 (YSmenu adapted to the M3) is the best one.
I really won't suggest to M3 Quad-Boot anymore since I am no longer updating it and only one firmware on it honestly has any updates. Just stick with YSM3 or buy a better card.

Is there a thread about how to use YSmenu or YSM3?
If all you want to do is install YSmenu, it shouldn't be that hard to be needing a guide.

1) Download RGF's package [here]
2) Find the required folder for your flashcart, according to the spoiler.
3) Remove everything from your other firmware, and place the contents of YSmenu in.

That should do it.

Ok, I've installed YSMenu.

Also, I like to play GBA games as well as NDS games. When I load a GBA game, a bright border comes up around the game screen. Is there any way to get rid of it. I don't want it to burn into my screen, nor use up extra battery. In essence, I want my GBA games to play just like they play if I have a GBA cart in my DS.

Im using the QuadBoot while manually updating it myself. I really like having moonshell working with Sakura. Only reason why im even having the Quad. And having quad boot is a plus. Only losers thinks otherwise.
