Install 202[60]v5.1 rodries mod. You can get it from ModMii.

I have several Wiis and have never tried to play DVD movies on them, but are you saying that it can only be done on older Wiis? So the new Blue Wii launched today, Black Friday, CANNOT play DVD movies? Just curious...

Correct. Only older disc drives can play DVD backups and DVD movies.

Wow! Thanks for the quick reply! Another quick question: Doesn't MPlayer (or MPlayer CE) allow you to just stream/browse content from/on a NAS?

The recommended media player for network and USB/SD playback is WiiMC.
For network, yes. For USB, no. Compatibility and speed for USB has greatly dropped since WiiMC switched to using IOS58. While the GUI is much nicer on WiiMC, MPlayer CE is much more likely to work for you.

That being said, some HDD's work fine with IOS58, so if you don't have a problem with WiiMC and your HDD, then there is no reason to switch to MPlayer CE.
