"We’ve heard loud and clear that PC gamers are bitching about there being no version for them," said Mettra. "But are these people just making noise just because there’s no version or because it’s a game they actually want to play? Would they buy it if we made it?"

Whether they would buy it or not, Mettra believes piracy makes porting games to the platform financially difficult.

"It’s hard because there’s so much piracy and so few people are paying for PC games that we have to precisely weigh it up against the cost of making it. Perhaps it will only take 12 guys three months to port the game to PC, it’s not a massive cost but it’s still a cost. If only 50,000 people buy the game then it’s not worth it."

Can't bitch about it; its a business decision. But 12 guys @3000$ a month for 3 months = 108000$ You would have to be not confident about the quality of the game you are making for not thinking it would gain its money back.
Skyrim sold 300000 copies just for PC only in america in one week... blame it on piracy!

How many people actually downloaded the game via torrents and whatnot? Well lets not get into that, but honestly, I can understand devs. On top of letting the PS3 taking the place of basically the main game platform in the house, my PC selection is about roughly.. 5 years old? Only thing I miss is games like HL2 on the PC. And Starcraft 2. Otherwise meh.. Adventure time? PS3. RPG time? PS3. Meh.. Did I mention I miss Starcraft 2? :3

I know several people who are very open about the fact that they pirate everything, but they still make it a rule to buy games that they find to be good enough. This tells me that it's less about piracy, and more about the quality of the game.

Even then, you can make it harder for them to pirate... Get some anti-piracy measures.

Ubisoft’s plan isn’t working. Even after taking these drastic steps, the company says that 90 percent of the people who play its games are playing them illegally

That sounds suspiciously like complete and utter bullshit. But what do I know

Yeah, but Bethesda and the Elder Scrolls brand are juggernauts in the game industry; it was basically guaranteed to sell well no matter what. This game and its developer aren't, so their fears are much more understandable

Actually, most statistics about piracy are often exaggerated or fabricated. Taking them at face value is already excessive.

But it's a shame. If the game were good, I'd buy it for sure

I didn't even know about this game to begin with. =O
Meh, like that article said, "Gamers often pirate for convenience, not finance.", pretty much all of my games have a no cd/dvd crack on them, even when I do own the game cuz it sucks having to put the game in the pc everytime I wanna play, I often download games via less legal ways, sure, but if there's a game I like, I'll buy it, like that same law that goes for roms 'download of roms is only legal for 24 hours and to test the game or blablabla' something like that. =O
I actually own most of the games I download, like Fallout 3, I first downloaded it to try it out since I loved it, I bought the game and all the dlc's for it at the time, also, on the bright side, most people that own a computer don't even know what torrents and cracks are. xP

It's truly horrible that a game I've never heard of will not be released on the PC. It's actually quite horrific to think that sales numbers became more important then the process of development itself. I remember a time when a "huge success" occoured when the game sold enough copies to cover the expenses, pay the rent and the wages of a studio's employees. Now it seems you need to get a good few mansions out of it aswell, otherwise it's an epic failure.

I wonder how it turned out that the PC is the platform we point at and scream "piracy hive" when the PSP requires 5 minutes to mod, the DS is a drag-and-drop piracy machine, the XBox360 requires nothing but a modded DVD drive, the Wii is soft-moddable since "forever" and the PS3 used to be pirate-able simply by using a *usb stick*, nowadays you use CFW's, but I digress.

You can *easily* pirate on every single console ever created for either free or a small buck, on the PC AT LEAST you need someone to crack the .exe.

I still don't understand why the heck the devs put so much value on stupid consoles and make games only for them (which must be played with a stupid controller) when a single PC holds more potential in it than the entire console generation together. And why the heck are they bitching about piracy... aren't they rich enough? Or what, will they take their fortune to hell or wherever they go after they leave this stupid world. Stupid money hungry hounds... *sigh* I shouldn't even bother getting annoyed... But it still sounds stupid to throw away the awesome keyboard/mouse controls for a stupid controller... Whatever, they saw that they can't win against the piracy simply because the hackers are way smarter than them and easily destroy their AP, and now they move to consoles, considering the PS3 wasn't yet fully hacked, so, that sorta makes sense. But, I can imagine they'll have the same reaction in a few years when every console game will be as pirated as the pc games are now, and then they'll regret the fact that they started a piracy revolution on console scale too. Well, hope I'm wrong, but, it's in the human nature to try anything to get stuff for free. Humans are greedy, therefore they're humans, so, naturally, they'll pirate the console games too (not that they aren't doing it right now, but, in the future, it will be at a way larger scale). Unfortunately, for most of the people, a pc means at least 50% games, so, killing the pc gaming industry will most certainly be a disaster... But, who am I fooling, I'm just raged that they want to do it, and I don't have a way to stop them. Sucks to see people think things so wrong, or resort to the worst solution just cause they want to avoid the rest available because they fear failure... Oh well...

Not all companies thing like them tho, like valve and bethesda, and prolly some others I can't recall the names atm. xP
Ubisoft has very few games I like, aside from Assassins Creed and it's sequels (which I think is from ubisoft, not really sure atm) .>

One thing limiting game piracy for the PS3 for example is the size of the games on top of the limited CFW available to play the games. But if you start looking at PC gaming nowadays, devs have to optimize everything for a ton of different specs. Consoles have only one spec which it needs to run in and thus need one configuration = less coding? But a bad move in one way, a good move in another..
