Hello everyone! I just got a Wii and it came hacked! yay! but i need help making the shop channel work. how do I safely update without losing my hacked wii? Thanks!

EDIT:
Hey guys, thanks for all the replies, though i'm still confused.
1st off though: i'm not new to hacking as i've hacked my android and my psp 2k and hacked my DS (big deal: R4)
And now I bought a wii from a guy on craigslist and it has homebrew channel installed (it updated itself already) and my IOS is 4.1, I installed bootmii as boot2 and when i'm done will remove it (if i can find out how)
But I can't figure out what to do to make my wii shop channel work. it says it needs a system update and I know i can't do that. I did as suggested and tried MMM but i don't know how to use it. Could someone give me a short step by step guide on how to update my wii so everything works? Thanks everyone!

Update homebrew channel, update Wii normally. The homebrew channel will remain installed that way.

Then run ModMii and update hacks.

If in doubt, check http://sites.google.com/site/completesg/ :)

Doing that (if it doesn't brick your wii first) requires you to do a shit ton of steps over again.
No it doesn't, and Dop-Mii is much more dangerous than Mod Mii.

Modmii is fine...unless you're like me and don't have Windows. (Wine,Crossover don't fix it either).
Personally I've never had a problem with Dop-Mii/IOS and I've used it to update channels quite a few times. Also IIRC updated to 4.3 requires you to go through installing HBC again and redoing all the IOS'es, or am I wrong?

Well 4.3 doesn't offer anything but anti-homebrew crap, if that's what you mean.

Dop-Mii was great in it's time, but it has been replaced by safer alternatives, such as Multi-Mod Manager and Wii Mod that do extra checks before allowing you to install/uninstall stuff.

If you don't have Windows, go with Softmod ANY Wii by mauifrog.

You really don't know what you are doing if you actually WANT to remove bootmii as boot2. It's the best thing you can have, and it's very rare these days to find a Wii that can install it.

Just stay at 4.1, there is nothing beneficial about 4.2+, it's just anti-homebrew and the 003 error (bricks region changed korean Wii's).

Okay, well I updated to 4.2 while waiting for your reply and everything is okay, should I downgrade back to 4.1?

But Main question. I'm wondering what is the best USB loader for backups? i might buy a used (small space) hard drive online for $10. that can hold maybe 10 games, and want to know the best loader to use. Or do you think loading discs is better?

I say just stay at 4.2, since it won't really hurt anything in your case. I never advise updating past 4.1, but downgrading is hardly risk free.

I strongly suggest you use Configurable USB Loader. It's included in ModMii's hacking process.
