Well updating to 4.3 won't get you any extra advantage or make any difference except the number displayed in the setting will change to 4.3 .

Anyway if you want to update the best way is to use Modmii & just tell it what you want and it will download them for you to install using MMM .

@davidnlta actually the worst case scenario is a fully bricked wii with no way to fix it . So unless you are lazy enough that you prefer risking bricking your wii over spending a few minute answering modmii questions don't do it .

Well there is always a chance to brick your wii when messing with the system menu . Even if you use the safest method there is always the change of the electricity going out or something similar.

As.for what I recommend just stay on 4.2 & just use Modmii to update your ios & cios to the latest if you want. This should be really safe as long as you stay away from ios 70 (your sys menu ios) as its the only ios that messing will cause a full brick.

I second the use of ModMii to update your IOS files. System menu versions 4.2-4.3 do not do anything useful at all; they just attempt to block homebrew. I'm personally on 4.1 with all the latest IOS files. My system menu IOS (in my case, IOS60. in your case, IOS70) has also been patched. Just let ModMii do the work and make sure to install Priiloader in order to block update prompts.

I agree, just update IOS's and stay as is. Im on 4.2 with current IOS's with Priiloader and update hack enabled.

@Lacius, I see you're an Adventure Time fan. Nicely!

I have always updated my wii using nintendo's official updater and i have never run into a single issue the likely issue he would get a brick from using the updater is less than 1%.

Dont be too sure. Besides, its stupid to risk it since 4.3 have even less brick recovery.
Its ok if you want to use it, but dont recommend it to others, because its NOT safe.

Installing priiloader is much more likely to cause a brick than doing an official update.
There is good reason to install Priiloader, but no reason to update.
I second this; if you do not wish to install Priiloader try installing a Custom System Menu using WiiMod3.0 and then you won't have to worry about updating cause you will be able to do an official update of any kind and still keep all your hacks; with the exception of cIOS249/250 you may want to change version# to 65535 or you will be reinstalling these 2 every time you do an official update.

No there isn't. There are much safer ways to do anything priiloader can do, such as using tinyload for out of region games or SNEEK for testing custom channels. There's no reason to risk butchering the original system menu installed on your NAND.
