According to Stephen Toulouse, Xbox LIVE Director of Policy and Enforcement, it is safe to play your legitimate pre-release date copy of Modern Warfare 3 online. It is known that KMart's have been selling the game early. However, C4Eva responded to Stepto, saying that pirated versions cannot be detected. This means that both legit and pirated copies of the game are now allowed online. Stephen needs to step up in the Cat and Mouse game.

I took that message a different way. I really have no clue if they know if someone is playing legitimately or not... but I took it with him pointing out "If your copy is legit..." as if you have a legit copy it's all good but if you're playing a pirated copy errrr you may be in for some bad news.

Again, I have no clue as to how this stuff works. That's just how I interpreted his statement.

I know a lot about how these things "work". C4E said himself today that Stepto can't even verify whether a game is legit or not. Meaning that whether or not the game was purchased it will be safe to play online.

Check it out for yourself.

That's good to know then. I just felt like putting that out there so maybe others with the same view or idea have a clear understanding.

Nebz: I completely agree, I should have worded it better. I hope the revised version makes more sense :)

AceWarhead: what I am saying is both Legit and pirated copies are safe.
