Following the release of X-Men Destiny, more than half of the developers at Canadian developer Silicon Knights have been laid off. They are perhaps best known for their Gamecube classic Eternal Darkness, as well as Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, Too Human, and the Gamecube remake of Metal Gear Solid.

According to CFO Mike Mayes, the company was working on another project following X-Men Destiny, which was suddenly cancelled. This led to a massive layoff at the studio, with 45 employees fired and less than 40 remaining.

However, the studio is currently negotiating contracts and "working on one of its most requested titles for the next generation."

X-Men Destiny recently released to rather negative scores, following mediocre scores from their sci-fi action RPG Too Human.

To be honest,I stopped giving a shit about them after too human.Up till now the only games they made that were incredible were supervised by Miyamoto or Kojima, both legendary developers.
On the other hand,I wonder what this highly requested title is?The only game they made that warrants a sequel, and that's highly requested,is eternal darkness which last I checked was owned by nintendo.

They're still technically 3rd party developers, so their "highly requested title" may possibly be Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Redemption on the Wii U!

One can dream. :P

I know everyone craps on Too Human... but once you get to understanding the game and how it plays, it's actually a good game. I had a lot of fun playing the game. If the second and third game in the trilogy never come out, I am going to be disapointed.

Their most requested title is the next installment to Too Human. You might not think so, but it actually does have a big following. It just didn't put up the sales and hype that was expected of by microsoft since they backed the first game.

I think eternal darkness makes the most sense so far,it's the one of their highest rated games, and it has quite a big following.
Plus I think they just want to forget about Too Human, even though it was decent once you get the hang to it,it wasn't stellar and the main idea behind it is pretty hard to execute

Nintendo has a say to whether SK will do a new Eternal Darkness game and based on previous games not being very good and the fact that in the last seven years they have released one poor title and a mediocre at best one which was originally intended for Playstation 1 and then Gamecube only to eventually appear on 360.

I'd rather Nintendo get a better developer to do ED2 but I think Nintendo needs SK to ok a new game not developed by them before they can start on one. Considering the lack of funds SK has I'm sure they'd ok it just to get some royalties. Hard to say if Nintendo would want a new game, its hard to say what they'll do nowadays...it could help the Wii U shift some units maybe what with it being a cult favourite and how it would get a lot of press if it was to happen.

I agree with you,I'd prefer that some other developer(maybe Renegade Kid?Dementium 2 was a very good horror game)do a sequel to ED,because I'm not sure if SK are still up to the task.
Who knows? They might end up butchering ED instead of improving,or they might make a great sequel if done right
Another possible developer would be Retro Studios since they have a lot of experience in making atmospheric games, but if it came to me I'd stick retro on every nintendo game

Retro were rumoured to be doing the sequel but I think it was attached to the false Paper Zelda thing. I know Retro Studios are doing something "everyone wants them to do" but shit with them as a second part Nintendo dev it could be anything. I would love them to get to do their own title, Nintendo could always do with my fresh IPs.

Wouldn't surprise me if it was a Too Human sequel. Everyone likes a comeback story. Like Assassin's Creed II and such.

Plus it would let them make Too Human 2: A Tale of Two Too's, which is a funny name.

I hate to sound like a heartless dick, but the company has really had this coming. After X Men Destiny and the abominable Too Human (The demo alone was terrible. How could no one at the studio tell it was going to suck dongs) alone, it's a miracle that they are still running.

It's really a shame seeing a company that used to produce good games squander all of its potential.

If they were smart, they wouldn't commit business suicide by making a Too Human 2. They'd be laying off the other half of their staff if they did.
