As it stands we cannot delete posts or titles, We can edit, but we cannot edit titles.

What is the reason for this, It seems like a design choice over an engine choice.

Noooo editing topic title = bad!

Imagine someone editing the title over and over again.
It would be impossible to find the topic your looking for!

That's why only mods can do it.

Far out can a mod fix my accidental multiple post thing?

It won't let me edit it :(

What if it let us edit the thread title once, just to let us fix a typo or make the thread title clearer?
That way, people won't be constantly changing the thread title and misleading people.

(Or let us change the thread title if there is no reply yet.)

Well, you should look over your whole title and post of a thread even before you post it to check for spelling mistakes or possible grammar errors.

And I'd think people in the EOF might abuse title changes. I think it's just better for mods to only have the ability to change titles.

Well, disable it for EOF, And ban users for misleading spam? End of subject.
Deleting a thread should be another option imo. Basic forum properties.

But that puts a lot of unnecessary work that the mods have to do, and maybe work on Tj and costellos part (I could be wrong on this, if either of them would correct me :P.) and deleting threads would kinda seem pointless too, as people would abuse it just as much as abusing title changes, and you should follow the saying "Search before posting", unless you had no idea that the thread you posted was already posted.

Its not hard to enable it per section, Its pretty much one click to setup.

xda-developers seems to have the ability to rename a thread if you're the OP; it's probably disabled here because of the *ahem* average maturity of people likely to come here.
(I'm not calling you all reckless children, but do you get what I mean?)

What about coding it based off post count? 500+, 1000+?

I've seen this suggested before and the main consensus is that it wouldn't work, only a few threads need a name change and reporting your thread or PMing a mod works just fine

This, precisely. It would not at all be worth the abuse it would engender. PM'ing a mod is the simplest solution, considering the few instances in which it would be necessary. Also, occasionally a mod will alter a topic to clarify the contents of the thread, since we get a fair number of "How do I fix this?" and "You won't believe this!" types of topics, though usually we do this in the subtitle (description) area.

We would rather not introduce complexity into the overall system for the benefit of the few that would use it wisely... and changing a title is a flick of the wrist to a mod, we don't mind doing it if it's warranted.

Thank you for your suggestions.
