The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - Lyre Trailer

I'm very surprised Nintendo is showing us this much cinematic footage, especially from such late point in the game. Up until now everything has been from the beginning of the game, the exceptions being very brief clips of temple gameplay and item menus. Of course, who knows how far along this footage actually is; it is a very long game after all. Judging by Link's shield, it can't be that far in, but it is the furthest we've seen.

The shots in this trailer are gorgeous, but I do think this is a bit much. I was hoping they would hold back on the story points until November. However, we have seen this part of the game before. This is the very climatic sequence, which we have been lead to assume was Ghirahim attacking Skyloft.

It is quite clear, by the gorge and the background mountains, that this structure is earth-bound. Zelda is in her white dress already, but she isn't being sacrificed or anything, which makes me wonder what prompts her to initially wear it. She's with her Sheikah body-guard, and Link has finally caught up with her. However, they are ambushed by Ghirahim, who we know has been tailing Link.

Zelda, being her quick-thinking self, uses magic to send the lyre Link's way. After the Sheikah's barrier fails, Link somehow gets past Ghirahim's barrier and fights him off.

The next few sequences show Fi dancing to the music of the lyre. It appears that some sort of portal is being made between the structure below and Skyloft. The two structures were probably originally connected before the Goddess brought half of it to the heavens, which would explain the gorge and the Hylian crest:

Honestly, how much of the game is Nintendo planning to leak before launch? The hype level is already at max with this game. Trailer was incredible, though the scene with Zelda, Link, and Ghirahim has a feel for a sort of end-game cinematic. I hope Nintendo didn't reveal something that late in the game. =/

Watched half the trailer before closing it... it's tough trying to hold off from spoiling even the smallest of things. And once it releases, I'm going to have to shut myself off from the rest of the world so that I can play it spoiler free at my own pace.

meh I could care less about skyward sword, for me zelda games are top down dungeon crawlers. While ocarina of time and majora's mask are excellent games, to me they aren't the zelda games I think of when legend of zelda games come to mind. I just hope that nintendo releases a new top down zelda game for the 3ds [and majora's mask] more intune with the snes classic link to the past, unlike the ds zelda games which where a cross b/t top down and 3d adventure windwaker.

If there had been a trailer focusing on the Ocarina before the release of OoT, I would have watched and enjoyed it.

I get where you're coming from and I respect that view. Still, Top down Zelda only had 6 games (7 if you include four swords adventure, a few more if you consider the completely unheard of BS Zelda games). The series has changed. You can't consider all the 3D releases to be "not zelda", because of course they are. They're just not exactly the same as the Zelda from 15 years ago.

That said I'd love to see a new 2D Zelda release a la Megaman 9.

I'm not really excited for Skyrim (It looks fine, but not I am not one of those expecting it to be the "Best Game Ever!"), but at least with the manual, it detailed all (or at least a good portion) of the features in the game and how they will function; there was a lot more to be excited for.
