Well probably there is no help but this is a last try. I have an old wii, probably one of the first ones that came out. The thing is that when i tried back then to update the custom firmware to get a new interface or whatever probably I used a bad file and it bricked my wii. I gave it to a friend to fix it but he ended up not only not fixing it but breaking the internal wii drive. And since then I have a cripled wii with no dvd drive that is bricked with no software like bootmii in it.

Yesterday that same friend that ruined my old wii told me that if I have a gamecute controller I will be able to fix it. I do have a wavebird (wireless wii controller) but before opening it it up to try what videos suggest I wanted to ask if its possible to do it especially with no dvd drive inside.

You might take a look at http://savemii.net/ this device does pretty much the same as the 4 button gc controller trick.
I am unsure if the trick will work with a wavebird.
To my understanding, you needed an original gamecube controller.

If your wii is really old, than it might be possible to reflash the nand with the help of an Infectus chip. Deadly Foez (sorry if I spelled this wrong) is the specialist about that.

No point in ruining a wavebird controller even if it did work. If the issue is with an update, so you won't be able to get into recovery mode with a GC controller or savemii.

Do you have a nand backup? I know you said you don't have bootmii, but I'm hoping you did have it at one time.

PS: Your friend sounds like a douche.

@Joostin

I might be wrong about about this, but if his Wii is very old, (possible to have bootmii as boot 2), isn't it possible to recreate a working nand, even without a backup?

It would still require the Infectus method to flash the nand.

Yes, but I was hoping that he had a nand backup in case it was a newer Wii.
Its worth getting a cheap GC controller and trying Savemiifrii. I had an update fail waaaaaay back but was still able to get into RM
Even if he was able to get into recovery mode (and I seriously doubt he can, since a failed update is almost certainly a full brick), he couldn't do anything with it.

Sadly no I have had no backup and i have never installed something that would be able to recover it. If it would end up running my waverbird indeed I would not try it. I do not really know the process. If its about just unscrewing it and not doing anything that could harm me I would do it easily. I have had more complicated things disassembled and reassembled. Aw well if its dead its dead I guess.

SO I guess even with savemefrii I would still be unable to do anything . Well thats really no fun. Thanks everyone though for the replies :)

How old is your Wii though? If it's old enough, it can still be fixed if you pay someone to flash your NAND.

If nothing else, you may be able to sell it for scraps.

You make it sound like your wii was never modded. In that case, have you considered to send it back to big N for repair.
If it was during one of their dash updates that it bricked, it's basically their fault.
So, you basically have 2 other options:

1. Send it to someone who can reflash the nand with an infectus, even without nand backup.
2. Try to sell it to someone who needs parts. Just be honest about what happend to it, so that you don't get complains afterwards.

Someone with one post? I'm not sure. :P

Yeah, pretty funny for a first post. He works with Venom and Suxxors, and that qualifies him as a Wii hacking expert. Venom and Suxxors never released anything for the Wii. They are in the DS scene.

1. Only if it was made sometime before mid-2008.
2. Agreed.

Sending it to Nintendo is not an option since his "friend" opened it up and broke the disc drive.

Umm i keep referring to it as my old wii because I di have a new softmodded wii. I never had a problem to softmod a mii. My mistake was that I trusted a random forum with an unconformed software while the process could not be found nowhere else. I always strongly believe what most guides point out. If instuctions are followed by letter nothing goes bad. Well at least it never did for all the wiis and psp I softmodded up to today.

Well my wii like I said was one of the first ones that at least reached first here in greece. I used to work in one of the big chain stores that sell everythign for the home including game concoles. The model is an RVL-001 I think.

Please give me the serial number and tell me what year you bought it. I can't find a release date for Greece.
