Steve Jobs' cause of death is listed as respiratory arrest caused by a pancreatic tumor, according to a report.
Jobs, 56, died about 3 p.m. last Wednesday at his home in Palo Alto, Bloomberg News said. The Santa Clara County Public Health Department issued the death certificate Monday.
"Respiratory arrest was listed as the immediate cause of death, with 'metastatic pancreas neuroendocrine tumor' listed as the underlying cause, according to the certificate, Bloomberg said. "Jobs’s death occurred five years after the onset of the tumor, according to the certificate."
The certificate also says there was no autopsy. Bloomberg said that Jobs was "buried at a non-denominational cemetery in Santa Clara County on Oct. 7."
Jobs, who co-founded Apple, now one of the most valuable companies in America by market capitalization, was listed as “entrepreneur” in the “high tech” business under "occupation" on the death certificate, Bloomberg said.
On Monday, Apple's home page continued its memorial to Jobs with a black-and-white photo of him and his birth and death dates.
Meanwhile, CEO Tim Cook said in an email to employees that the company will celebrate Jobs' life in a private gathering at 10 a.m. Oct 19 at Apple's Cupertino campus:
"Although many of our hearts are still heavy, we are planning a celebration of his life for Apple employees to take time to remember the incredible things Steve achieved in his life and the many ways he made our world a better place," Cook said in the email, posted on website 9to5mac.

"metastatic pancreas neuroendocrine tumor"

That means the cancer spread to other organs. It came back in a big way I guess.

At least he must have known that the end was near and had time to say his goodbyes.
That's usually how cancers kill. It's not usually the cancer causing a ton of trouble in the area itself (ie. breast cancer) but the metastasis to vital organs that makes it so dangerous. That's why catching them early is so important.

Thank you for telling us something we all knew...

And thank you for your absolutely stupendous contribution to the topic at hand. I mean, it's astounding how you can walk in, and essentially post worthless bullshit. I, am amazed. I assure you.

Not too terribly surprising that his cancer metastasized. Sad to see that it was respiratory arrest that got him though.

Sad, but I guess that would have been the cause of his death. I could never imagine being in his shoes, in those final moments. I'll miss him.

that wasnt necessarily a given. I read on multiple sites that he supposedly was dead of AIDS (no kidding!)
i found this weird but the news was on serious websites too.

I didn't like his approach on marketing and business ethics were terrible, but then again if you charge $800 for $300 worth of equipment millions of people are gullible enough to buy it then fair play, ya know if people boycotted the iphone1 they would of knocked the price down and we would live in a fair word.

And I know there was alot more to apple than the iphone, but outside the creative industry Apple mostly made their name with the phone alone, nobody knew or had an apple pc (one person I knew had an apple mac g3) now everyone has macs, your not cool if you don't have an apple product.

Fair play though Steve Jobs you revolutionized the market and made your brand a house hold name you ingenuity will never be forgotten RIP.

And for the people who say you'll miss him , did you know him on a personal level? Its a little weird missing someone you've never met. You gotta remember he never invented any of the products on the market now he was just the face behind the company that did.
Are you going to miss Pablo Escabar, Pablo invented the circuitry behind the iphone, nobody talk about poor pablo though. (ok pablo isnt real but theres someone behind every product made in a company, there never named or praised for their work)

steve wasn't just the face. he was a programmer early on and he was involved in the development of many of the products. you seem to know very little about the man's role in apple to criticize. he is not like ballmer.
