Much of Vita's software will be available as both download and boxed products, so why is the time still not right for a fully digital platform like, for instance, PSP Go? "We believe, for some consumers, the time is
, but for other consumers, the time is still not
," Yoshida tells us. "So we believe the time is still not right to go download-only as a platform.

I don't like the idea of 100% digital. It'd suck if you didn't have internet or your internet provider isn't good (although I've heard something like digital kiosks on stores, so that you wouldn't need to use the internet). I also like to have the box if I buy something and at least the vita doesn't use anymore of those huge, inconvenient UMD disks, which are terrible to take everywhere.

I think an all Digital content console will never fly because of the resale value of physical games. And there's that lingering feeling that you never truly own that piece of software. What if you download something, for some reason wipe your memory and forget your password and e-mail(I know people who have done this)? The content you paid for wouldn't be too useful then.

Gonna have to agree with this, at least when you buy something you get a receipt or something that says you paid for that item on a certain date and time. You won't feel as ripped off as you do if you lose everything due to a digital-only console.

Yep. The PSP go was a costly experiment in digital distribution and it proves that games as a medium are not ready to be digital only. The reason I believe that Steam is so successful is because users of that are automatically connected to the internet and people that play PC games are far more likely to have internet plans that support a high volume of downloads. But not everyone is in that situation and in many countries, it would simply not be feasible to force consumers to download everything. Soon, I believe that it will be an even split between digital distribution and retail stores but it will take time before its 100% digital.

I'll agree when it comes to consoles, the PC on the other hand is pretty easily transitioning to an all-digital platform.

Still, console gamers are pretty stubborn and like to hold stuff in their hands. The Go, as nice as it was in terms of a device, didn't have a good backing to it and failed pretty hard. The Vita is definitely a step in the right direction: blending physical and digital media to give anyone an option of either.

Of course that proprietary medium is gonna be a bitch.

Two things, this could either be a shot at OnLive, or they're just telling us the same god damn thing they did after we all said the PSPgo isn't good.

Digital downloads are fine....when they're free. But when I pay for something, I like to have a physical copy in my hands.

For me, paying for a download is against my religion.

Alot of people don't have high-speed internet. This is why our max download speeds in the USA suck. You have computers with fast connections connecting to ones with slow connections.

Imagine if you lived out in the countryside where your only choice for internet was Dialup. You can't download SQUAT on dialup! So if the PS Vita was download-only, it would be like slapping a large number of USA consumers in the face.

Oh great! PS Vita is using its own proprietary card format AGAIN! How about a Micro SD to PS Vita card, much like the Micro SD to SD Card thingeys, that way you could slide it into any SD Card slot! The 3DS uses SD HCs and I think it also accepts XCs.

Downloading games would be crappy anyway... Imagine it in Australia, you would still wait awhile for the big games!

Edit: Or anywhere else with crappy internet.

Sorry for my ignorance, but do we know what the PSV will use besides digital downloads, if it won't use UMDs? Just wondering.
Those little card things, similar to the DS.

It's a new cartridge medium (much like a ds cartridge). It somewhat looks like an SD card with a rounded top, iirc (?)

Thanks, both of you! that's cool. Definitely better than discs. I'm always afraid of discs getting scratched.

I think digital distribution is better physical copies on paper... but I prefer getting the physical copy.

I think it will take over eventually... but they're right. Now isn't the time.
