Well, we all know what Nintendo did with Mario Kart World (Online-Mode), and we all know that Nintendo is a dictatorial company that doesn’t care much about what its consumers think.

Luckily, Nintendo isn’t the only player in the fun racer space. Sega is still around with its Sonic Racing series. Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed was an excellent game on the Wii U (Unfortunately it wasn't ported to the Switch 1), and I loved every moment and the inovative game modes it had. Now, with Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Sega has a brand-new racing game on the horizon. Could this be the game that surpasses Mario Kart World?

The game will include some interesting new features while keeping the classic three-lap structure we all love. So perhaps the question is: Could this be the better Mario Kart for the Switch 2? Let’s talk about it and take a closer look at what this game has to offer.

Release date: September 25, 2025.

Unfortunately it wasn't ported to the Switch 1

It should've been remastered in 1080/60 for all consoles, but instead they gave us a sequel not as good.

SRCW looks very promising and the fact MKW has dropped the ball has given Sega the advantage to grab new customers.

It better not be another damn GKC.

It isn't really your standard 3 lap racing game, the tracks transtion into a different one each lap, making it more like those tracks that have segments instead of laps in Mario Kart (Wuhu Island, 3DS Rainbow Road)

Not knowing what really comes next may prove a bit tricky for some players (altho I have not heard anyone who got to test it complain about this?)

These games entirely hinge on how fun they are to control IMO. Every single other kart racer (somehow) can't manage to make karts that are as fun to control and drift. They either try to do Asphalt-style arcade cars or they go the complete opposite direction and get way too technical on the drifting.

IDK what could possibly be so hard to emulate about mario kart's drifiting but so far every kart racer just doesn't have that "it factor." SRB2Kart comes REALLY close but the regular driving feels floaty while the start+stop mechanic of the drifts gets tired after a while. Sonic all-stars racing was always too close to the Asphalt type arcade controls for me

it depends on what you are looking for. Most every racing game is better than Mario kart if you are looking for depth or challenge. Mario Kart is Mario kart, world is just a pretty bad one. 8 deluxe is a pretty good one, so I would just go back to playing that. They are all pretty much the same simple game.

It's hilarious watching Nintendo haters exist in their own RDF (Reality Distortion Field) where they convince each other that MKW isn't the best Kart racer of all-time by a wide margin and that it won't easily outsell the obsolete MK8D within 5 years. It's even more amusing to see them suggest the discredited Sega entry is somehow better too.

Keep hatin', haters. As long as you keep hating Nintendo while also buying their consoles, Nintendo of Japan is happy with you!

You're on some hard drugs. 🤣

Game looks really cool and I had a lot of fun with Sonic Transformed on Vita but I prefer the Pc version with free online if ever...

At least for the online portion of the game, I do think it has a good chance of being better. Just needs more game modes and more freedom to select courses, so it's not a high bar to clear. I'm getting pretty much all my value out of MKW through time trials.

Both Sonic and Mario better be happy Crash Bandicoot has such a terrible ownership, because Crash Team Racing gives both of them a run for their money.

I'd absolutely love a Mario Kart title with CTR mechanics. Here's hoping the IP isn't left for dead once more.

If it's as good as Transformed, maybe ?

Team Sonic Racing left me a sour taste though

I loved Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing and Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed. Hated Team Sonic Racing.

I did play the beta of CrossWorlds and enjoyed it very much. Enough to pre-order it after they announced the addition of characters from Minecraft, TMNT, Spongebob, Avatar:TLA, and two more collabs that they have left to announce.
