When working with older gaming hardware, and specifically flashcards, you run into an issue that they only support the SD/MicroSD sizes of the era. In case of the cheap GBA flashcard's I have from china: SuperCard Mini SD they expect a card smaller than 2GB in capacity! While that is challenging enough to find a MicroSD that small these days...finding one in actual MiniSD format is IMPOSSIBLE!! Luckily those flashcards come with a MicroSD to MiniSD adapter included, but still. Finding small MicroSD cards is not easy. Or so I thought!
I have found some on amazon ranging in size from 128mb, 256mb, 1gb, 2gb and up to 64gb in packs of 5 or 10! I have bought a pack of 10 256mb cards (22 euro) and a pack 5 of 2gb cards (25 euro). So that's about 2.20 euro for a 256mb card and 5 euro for a 2gb card. Never heard of the brand "cloudisk" before and I have no idea if they are even reliable. But my main reason of buying them was as "burnable" testing cards on the SuperCard's and maybe other older devices. Sometimes a small card is all you need, so why waste all those extra GB's on there
The smallest MicroSD card I have is 512mb and it had some kind of sticker over all kind's of "golden test-points" that makes that card feel thicker and less reliable. In fact many times the SuperCard would show corrupted text instead of the card content. I know it's a cheap and bad flashcard but I had no other options to rule out the SD card in this case. Now I have and I did run a quick test to see if the cards would work at all.
I copied a few SC converted games and some of my homebrew tests onto it. The RAM tester I posted a few days ago works perfectly! And also a few of the games I tried work great: Mario Kart, Zelda Minish Cap. Loading seems just as "fast" as it was with the other card. Ofcourse the Everdrive and EZ-Omega blow it out of the race in loading times, hahaha
Maybe in a few days I might try to access the SD card in the SuperCard. And with these new tiny ones at least I can make a few spares in case something goes wrong.
