Cats are great fun as kittens but when they get older they simply eat, shit and sleep. I wouldn't let yours sleep on your keyboard anymore though!!

I don't let them on my keyboard, they just shed year-round. I love them to death, but holy christ! I need to use canned air on my keyboard going forward maybe every week.

I have stopped eating over my keyboard though, so that's a plus.

I clean the ones at home at least twice a week and the ones at my business get cleaned every day. Who knows where my staff members grubby hands have been so I make them clean them at the end of each day

Just added a new pic at the bottom, all clean. I popped each key off, gave em a good swirl in some hot (125°F) soapy water (Dawn soap). Let them soak a bit, then dried each cap by hand with a towel.

Yes, and the keys are way more responsive too, without all that pesky cat hair.

Looks pretty neat now! You could knit a jumper with all that cat hair.

Protip, you can clean keyboards in the dishwasher. It can't clean anything the water jets can't get to (so works best if you remove the keys and clean those separately) but does fully sanitize the keyboard.

My keyboard uses mechanical switches, so I'm not putting it in the dishwasher. That dishwasher method was for basic membrane keyboards, not keyboards with RGB lighting, complex switches, votary dials for volume, and usb ports on them. It would be destroyed more than it would help.

Just keep in mind Scott, that I didn't clean my shit for 4 years. It's my fault it got this bad, so don't let this deter you from enjoying it.

Twice a week? Yeah I might occasionally run a lock pick or other thin metal shim down it to get the worst of the fluff out of it. Granted I don't eat in front of my machine and wash my hands if they are too dirty to bother with.

Other than when refurbing a machine or playing to someone's OCD (and everybody loves that orange smell coming from a refurb computer it seems) then only time I would seriously clean a keyboard that much is if it is in a hospital or kitchen, or somehow needed it (I have put a few of the same washable keyboards I used to install in the mentioned locations in car workshops as well).

I use a keyboard cover for mine. The keyboard looks brand new when I take it off. The rest of the laptop, pretty dirty. I went through 3 laptops for keyboard issues. Then I bought a keyboard cover. Never had another issue.
