Yet another dead console saved

Black screen and power off after 10 seconds? Check. Paste so crusty you could use it as Play-doh? Check. X-clamp mounting screw so tight its thread was completely stripped? Check.

A little TLC later and another console from the dumpster was rescued - woo-hoo! I was expecting the power delivery, APU or HDD to be buggered in some way, but no! Just poor assembly. It's always worth giving a faulty girl a look before you put it in the bin - big problems sometimes have small, easily rectifiable causes.

Not sure. For now it enters the collection. I might re-shell it, I have some spare Halo 5 Guardians LE shells left, they're easy on the eyes.

good thing you got it to steer away from the "light." reminds me of that one video someone made about rrod with queen's "Another One Bites The Dust" playing, while showing a montage of systems with rrod. lmao.

They most certainly do not learn @Silent_Gunner. The X-clamp was a horrible idea on the 360 and it should've been abandoned then - insufficient mounting pressure, hard to put on, hard to take off. Just use screws and a backplate, it's so much better.

I didn't even know the xbox one had an x clamp. when I started running into overheating issues with my xenon 360, I opened it up, and noticed that the xclamps had been removed, so I assume whoever had it before me also had issues with it. xenons are true pos.

With the 360 the ventilation system was overengineered and silly, it can be massively improved by adjusting the airflow accordingly. But yes, the clamp needs to go, it's just not a very good way to mount a heatsink.

I know that the heat causes the board to bend (possibly crack) around the xclamp area. I don't think I've ever owned a 360 that hadn't had the x clamp removed. all of my 360s have been used.

I do like the look of the xbox series s, so I might buy one of those, but at the same time, I don't want an inferior console.

That was actually one of the reasons why so many boards died - people were hard-mounting the heatsinks without using any kind of backplate to stiffen that area of the board.
