Wii Rant

So I was at my older sisters house for Saturday night, came home Sunday afternoon. And her boyfriend, he likes all of his consoles modded and whatever, DS Flaschard, Dreamcast [all the DC games downlaoded and burned], modded Xbox 360, Modded Wii, Modded PS2/PS3... everything.

Anyways, I was playing the Wii. And I went through a bit of games in that one day.

I played Punch-Out Wii for the first time, beat it.
I Played Mario Kart Wii for the first time, beat it.
I played House of the Dead Overkill for the first time, beat it.

I played a bunch of games, just can't remember them.

And here's the thing, when you look at the number of games the Wii has, [he had up to.. around the 900's of discs burned], there's A LOT of crap on the console. Even some of the big games like Punch-Out, Mario Kart, aren't the greatest. I'd rather take the other versions over the new ones any day of the week.

And the others from 3rd party developers that are supposed to be big titles, they're very forgettable.

And when you look at Nintendos other consoles, sure they have a lot of crap too, but they still have A LOT of great titles. It's sad to see the Wii being treated as it is, especially when you look at Nintendo's past consoles and the HUGE library of amazing games they had.

Wii and DS, due to their at first unique play style, are susceptible to shovelware. The few times something amazing does come out, it ends up being somewhat of a flop due to people overhyping the shit out of it, so they dont meet peoples' expectations

EDIT: And i agree, i like the original punchout better than the new one, as well as Mario Kart DS more than just about any other Mario Kart. At most Double Dash is tied with DS

you sure you beat punchout? you made it through the ranks twice? and beat donkey kong?
and beating mario kart on any system was never really hard. just time consuming because you got to play on all cc's and all cups. HOD: Overkill is meant to be a fast game, its a light gun game.

play DKC returns. play mario galaxy 1 and 2. then tell me the games are simple.

the problem with the wii, and in your friends case, is there is so many games to be had due to piracy that the games no longer seem any good.

This. I downloaded DKC, Kirby Epic Yarn, and Epic Mickey and i havent played any of them. part of it is cuz i played them at a friends house, but never finished, but the other reason is that i just dont find them that appealing. Epic Mickey most of all, i mean the gameplay is slow, and most of the time dull. i had hoped they wouldve done something else with the combat as opposed to just hosing them down.

Wii has a few diamonds in the rough, but you have to sift through the crap first. Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Metroid Prime 3, Boom Blox, and a few others I can't think of are amazing games. I don't touch my Wii nearly as much as the DS though, and half the time when I do play the Wii I'm actually either playing a GCN game or emulating something older. Wii is an amazing cash cow, and that's why we never see anything good, because third-party developers can target games at young kids and families and move huge amounts of discs.

I couldn't play DKC because he didn't have it. And I already beat Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 multiple times before playing his games, so I wasn't interested.

And I'm not talking about the speed of the game, I'm saying, yes HOTD is a fun game, but it's very forgettable.

The truth is most people haven't played even half of the Wii's library of good games, because most are underappreciated, or even unheard of.
Also, why are you basing your rant on the few games you played? All those you mentioned are easy to beat, but their fun doesn't end when you beat them, at least not in Punch Out and (especially) Mario Kart Wii's case.

....That game is tough as nails, and pretty damn long, too.

I seriously doubt you beat it, along with two other games, playing them for the first time, in one night.

Why would you EVER suggest Super Mario Galaxy as proof of all Wii games 'not being simple'.
The galaxy games are so pathetically easy it hurts. They're awesome and trippy, but i'll be damned if they're even remotely difficult.

Punch-Out is sort of tough, but most of that is solved by figuring out your opponents strategy...they all follow the same patterns. I still thought it was quite fun, though it didn't have shit on the original.

Mario Kart is a multiplayer game. If you're good at one, you're good at them all. After being great at the N64 Mario kart, i can turn on ANY mario kart game and immediately destroy any 150cc mirror/no-mirror Cup. It's simple. You need to play with OTHER PEOPLE for it to be an enjoyable, and challenging game.

Anyways, it's been known for ages that the Wii has a pile of shit games, with gems strewn about the pile. Not very many Wii games are all that difficult. In fact, I can't even name one that was super challenging by default. Doesn't mean there aren't a lot of really fun Wii games. I have a hard drive with about 15-20 very fun Wii games. I dunno why it bothers you that the first console with real motion controls got flooded with shit games. It was destined to happen because everyone and their dog wanted to try cash-in on the motion-control/Wii frenzy.

Last fighter is Sandman. Easy way to hurt him, right before he attacks, you just hit his chest. No need to dodge or anything. When he does that "fake out" special of his where he does like 3 upper cuts, just dodge out of the way.

So yeah... I did beat it. Punch-Out on the NES though, that's a different story. No way in hell can I beat that. I can go through every fight and win until I get to that.... shit whats his name.. he's that fighter from California who's like all movie star-ish.
