why there is no such thing as "Straight Pride"

simply put, being "straight" has been the "norm" for ages. being heterosexual is accepted in the whole world. you don't see anyone being discriminated against, or kicked out, or whatever for being straight, you see it more often against those in the LGBTQ community.

there is no such thing as "heterophobia", since nobody is against the idea of being straight. since "homophobia" and similar things do exist though, that's why you have gay pride parades and things.

DUDE, you can be PROUD that you're straight, what we're SAYING is that it's not CELEBRATED because heterosexual people are hardly discriminated against.

"yes they are and this thread is a perfect example"
"In a lot of places, like right here, they are considered kind of unimportant. They are the norm so we can discriminate against them and they have no pride??"
"I said Hetero pride and heterophobia is a real thing. And this thread not only proves that but also proves that a lot of you don't know what those things mean. Words like equality and pride are lost here."

Because people here seem to feel strongly about it, I want to ask a question.
If someone were to tell me that they are not straight (as if it was some big thing), would they find it offensive if I said "I don't care"?

I wouldn't. In fact, I'd think it great that it doesn't really matter to the person I said it to.

> No, you augment situation to make gay part of the issue. You turn things in to a gay thing when its an equality thing. Get a grip.
Where's this "augmenting" you talk about?

Making things a gay issue that are not. Like if HETEROs have pride. Only reason that statement was made was to insert gay in to hetro issue. And the fact that most of you are gay and fight the statement" heteros can have pride" proves it. Pride is not a gay thing. Your augmentation made it one.

>What if we reduce the rights of everyone else down to the same set of rights you perceive yourself as having. Now that's equality. No you want more rights.
Except the "reduce rights" part will never actually happen.

Exactly and neither will equal rights. Untill you get the same problems, privileges, wages etc. no mater who was involved reguardless sex, age, race, orientation etc. and not enhanced consequences for certain groups.

> IF a straight guy walks up to me at a bar and says "Fuck you and your mother" I can punch him in the face. I MAY get assault but probably not. If he was gay its a hate crime. I would go to jail. Maybe even without throwing a punch. Not equal. Thanks to all the PC bullshit there is tons of this type of hippocracies going on
It's hate crime if you punched him because he's gay. If you punch him because he didn't pay the rent (first example that comes to mind), or some other unrelated matter, it's not hate crime.

Once again, bullshit. It happens all the time. Kinda like spousal abuse. I witnessed a man getting beat up by his wife with a crowbar. He pulled it out of her hand. She refused to let go so she fell. He went to jail cause she got a scratch on her arm. Just because most spousal abuse it inflicted upon the woman the law are geared that way. Same with hate crimes. It does not matter motive. If he's the straight one he's guilty. Especially around here in SF.

> You see if you make the same derogatory statement against straights and gays the acceptable social norm is get appalled at the anti-gay statement. But about half the time the anti-hetro statement will be no big deal to most.
You would be right if "anti-hetero" statements were actually being said. Since it's not the case, we're talking invisible pink unicorns here.
The statement Heteros cant have pride cause they are hetero is not anti hetero? But the statement "Gays can't have [insert anything here] because they are gay. would definitely be anti gay.

The rest is the usual banter i won't bother replying to again :P
right, the same bullshit unequal equality and myopic view that conveniently makes you exempt from logic.

You can all shut the fuck up now. Fight your crusade in a more appropriate venue. One with out childs minds to warp. And kindly, fuck off

Actually, that's what LGBT+ Pride is really all about. Trying to get to that level where we can express yourselves and no one would care. Once people start treating it like an issue, we will stop having the need to have a "Pride."
So if you don't care, then we are actually happy that you don't care!

You DO realize you're in the blogs section, and not the main forums, right? You're allowed to post shit like this here. If you don't like it, then you can fuck off.

You realize that everyone has been trying to be civil with you and you've been the one who is belligerent. You were the one who been trying to turn a civil conversation into an argument and everyone else has been trying to stay civil.
You are the problem.

I feel like this is a misuse of terms. It would be perfectly logical to take pride in adhering to one's principles in the face of derision, regardless of your sexual orientation and even if the derider is of a smaller, historically maligned demographic. In this case, having pride in oneself takes the place of both "gay pride" and "straight pride". It equates to the same thing regardless of the demographic history, so both must exist. As far as I'm aware, there is no threshold for when it is okay to start feeling pride in oneself, rather than feeling pride in an arbitrary characteristic because of the size of overall demographic categories... Which is nonsensical since a characteristic is not an achievement. Phobias aren't tangential to oppression either, people just dislike things irrationally as the term is defined. Thus if even one person says they do not like a person for being straight, demonstrating the concept in full, your argument holds no water.

I do agree that there needs to be a better term, as "Pride" does seems like one is taking pride in just their sexuality as a character.
Despite the actual meaning for the term "Gay Pride," the wording just makes it appear to be something else.

They should rename it from "Gay Pride Day" to "Gay Unshaming Day". Because this isn't a day of gay megalomania. But "Straight Pride" or "Straight Pride Day" certainly does sound like megalomania.

PS - And I (and I presume most people) am a megalomaniac, but then life shows you how unimportant you are. Oh well. :)
