Why Corbenik?

You know what I haven't done in forever? Made a blog about CFWs! So here's my little blog about why I use Corbenik! I love Corbenik so damn much. First of all, I admire the hell out of chaoskagami for not only making this project, but because he's an honest person who stuck to his guns. He set out to make an advanced, poweruser driven, dev friendly CFW, and damn it, he made it! He took helpful advice from the community and always made sure his CFW was tested. Even when a bug is found, it's almost immediately taken care and tested to ensure it was fixed. But more importantly to me, is his focus. He has a goal and has striven straight towards achieving that goal without buckling. He's blunt, honest, but still extremely kind, he's not afraid to speak his mind, but isn't rude about it. Not to mention doesn't hold your hand, he's helpful, but expects you to also help yourself. Encouraging users of his CFW to think and learn from it.
Corbenik reminds me so much of why I love homebrews so much and why I got into the hacking scene. Because it's a true work of art to me, it's complicated, it's interesting, and more importantly, it turned something as boring as a CFW into something fun. I haven't enjoyed hacking this much since my old DS hacking days, when I was testing out homebrew launchers for my flashcarts. Every update just brings something new and interesting, anything from small details to massive changes like a chainloader. It makes every nightly worth testing.
This is a project I am damn proud that I supported at the start and even more proud to say is my main and only CFW/Bootloader. I know there's great things about the other CFWs and trust me, I've tried them all (I was running 6 of them,) but this one is just the best for me. It does everything I want and more. It's a great project that actually made me go out and learn about the things it was doing. I actually studied and enjoyed studying to know more about this CFW. And I am so happy that I did that, because that was the reason I came here, to learn and Corbenik has helped me do that. It's not the CFW for everyone, but it's damn well the CFW for me.

Corbenik is probably cool, though I only got CFW to play games with Clock+L2 as well as Homebrew and the glorious GBA Virtual Console. So Luma3ds is all I need mostly although I see why dev's would like it.

You do you Crystal, you use the CFW named after a .hack character.

I do what I do, I guess? I'm not used to being praised at all, really. Seems awkward to me every time. <3

Either way, corbenik does have some design issues and isn't perfect. It is, Even still, I use it myself, and I keep chugging along with development when I can.

And @Boured is correct; when it comes down to it, you pick the tool that works the best in your workflow.

+1 to Corbenik master race. Ever since I switched to Corbenik, I have never had any issues that was not due to stupidity. With Luma, I almost always had some minor issue (the only recent issues that I have had though are firmlaunch hooks on n3ds (luma goes to my crappy bootmanager that I still use in 2017. CTRAging forces the console to reboot when it is launched) and the lack of chainloading into cfw without work). to control what patches are applied is a perk as well of course. I wish that Corbenik would be taken more seriously though as a CFW tbh. On a not so ranty note, keep up the good work @chaoskagami <3

I actually made this blog because I get a rather high amount of PM's on why I don't use Luma3DS and or my CFW thread has gotten several questions asking about my personal CFW of choice.
@chaoskagami I admire the hell out of your project and I have since the start. It's one of the first time I enjoyed actually testing a product. I enjoyed an unfinished/untested CFW because it worked the way I've always wanted a CFW to work. Plus I love the Unix-Like filesystem. It's like a little Linux on my 3DS

I have tried all the main CFW which support emunand and I really liked Corbenik. I used to use ReiNand (but unfortunately it does not have on the fly TWL/AGB patching like Luma did). I liked Luma but I use arm9select by @FIX94 rather than the chainloading of Luma. Corbenik came along and was the easiest to use for my setup and I couldn't be happier (although if @Reisyukaku ever decides to add TWL/AGB patching to ReiNAND I may defect yet again.) Big kudos to @AuroraWright, @chaoskagami and @Reisyukaku, they each have given 3DS users different levels of control with their awesome CFW's. For enthusiasts there is Luma and Corbenik. For the simple there is ReiNand. All I see is win.

You made a blog about it but I feel like you didn't really address the main question of why, so... Why would someone want to use Corbenik vs Luma (what specific features, what kind of environment, etc.)?

Huh.... @TotalInsanity4 You most likely missed the sticky by Crystal the Glaceon talking about the advantages of each CFW.

Well i must admit, that I only knew about the CFW was cause of a guide that you posted Miss Corbenik's Waifu. :P

I did use it and found it rather interesting, although i can see why is called the advance users cfw. I can understand why there is not much love for it from more people and i understand the purpose of the creation and why she likes it. So you do deserve some respect and also some praise even if she has do be the one to do it all alone. Look like you got a fan girl sir. :creep:

Because of some thoughtful users like you two who has talent for making such things, I do appreciate it even though is not considered to be the most used option over luma. But you had done what you set out to do and made it possible, that how we got here now, to the point where is real and people like her is all over it. I may not be that much in love with it but i do take some breaks to see what it can do and if any ideas comes to me i try them. But is still a interesting thing to have. Besides the way she described your willingness to work with users is also acknowledge cause there is many people who lack "Customer support" and is a shame they do since you are making it for these people.^_^

I honestly don't have much to say about the experience in using it other than i was really never a hardcore advance programming user for stuff like advance customization. Pehaps is my lack of attention having ADHD and all (although aspergers supposed to contradict that) But is all about perspective. You made this corbernik, Crystal made the helpful guide to CFW and is both being consistent in management which i find very collaberative. Sometimes i wish i can have things like this as i don't have many people willing to chat with me or share and discuss these kinds of stuff with, is nice to see other can do it, makes me remember that even though it hasn't happened for me, is possible.... even with the low 13% chance. :ninja:

@Crystal the Glaceon Does Cobernik work on CTRNAND? If so, I'm getting this.

Even if it doesn't, I'm still getting this.

maorninja
It does not, the nature of Corbenik's build won't allow it work on CTRNAND. You can however run Luma3DS on the CTRNAND, welts running Cobernik off your SD card. That's what I have been doing.
