Elementary School: You could satisfy your entire class with a pack of those cardboard cards. I remember trying to pick out ones that were unique and different, but everyone would have the same ones! (I was jealous of little kids, because I saw Pokemon and Dragonball Z themed ones!) And ripping them was painful, the perforations did NOTHING; you usually ripped them along with a few cards.
High School: Homeroom sales, anyone? The worse were the candygrams. Remember someone walking in with a handful of the candygrams for delievery, and you hoping that you got one? Later in high school, our group of friends solved that problem - we sent to everyone in the group! It was still painful to see the popular/mean girls get a ton of the stuff, although.
College: My college had the rose sales every Valentine's Day. It was just an extension of the drama in high school - and I remember one of the popular girls having an entire bouquet in her hands. It was also an IT school, so the number of girls versus the number of guys was terrible. (40:3 in one class).
University: The most awkward of the times; you always saw the guys shopping last minute for their sweethearts. I personally avoided buying flowers and different things - the last thing I sent to my girlfriend was a digital picture frame and enough photos to fill it up. Also, this year was mostly homemade stuff - I carved a couple of stamps, stamped post-its, and got her an engraved pen set. Also, I plan to give a thank you card to a friend; but waiting until Valentine's day is over!
