I've been witness to (and benefited from) a curve stretching beyond the 30 point range. Shit you not.

We were told to set the curve ourselves. So what'd we do? Everyone passed. :D Teacher was maaaaaaad at us, oh yes.

I was one of those people who tended to set the grading curve in school. It sucked because the teacher would make a big deal out of it and point me out and everyone in the class would hate me for it. Because of that, I hated the grading curve too.

HEY! It's not MY fault if everyone around me was stupid. Was I supposed to get answers wrong on purpose on a test just to make the other people in my class look smarter? I don't freakin' think so!

You want to fault someone? Fault the teacher for allowing a curve and not just grading everyone on their own merits.

Just a bit of advice from a person that was "too smart" in school.

But, you know, the AP test are pretty much scored by a curve. I don't think people in my AP classes got that angry at the person who got the highest score. Everyone seemed to get along nicely when it dealt with academics...can't say the same with dealing with other subjects.

but its still ridiculous when there are 3 a's, 0 b's, 4 c's, and everyone else failed, of like 50 people.

G
I wreck the curve all day everyday.
If only my teachers actually did mark with a curve =/

My AP World History teacher doesn't curve anything...

Instead he give the people with the 6 highest grades in the class a few points of extra credit on tests. It isn't much (I have the highest grade in my class and I only got like 2.75 points extra on the test...) but it's enough that people compete to be on top. It's easy to see who has the highest scores, too, because the top scorers sit in the front row ordered by their placing.

So naturally everyone wants my seat...
