There's this new trend nintendo's been hopping on and i hate it so fucking much

I hate how every nintendo franchise/product that wasnt 3d mario ended up losing something significant that made the game so interesting in a later entry/ sequel. Smash lost the fast paced gameplay after melee with brawl, mario kart lost most of the experimentation and ultra shortcuts after MK wii, animal crossing lost most of the charm, witty dialogue that was even mean at times in exchange for happy happy happy, and Zelda just straight up stopped being about dungeons. hell nsmb fucked up from the start by completely bastardizing the physics which made mario such a dream to control in earlier games like SMW, in exchange for slow tanky controls that do not go well with the flow of 2d mario. also FZero and metroid are dead. its like nintendo just stops caring after 1-2 sequels and i really hope they stop this trend of removing stuff that made their previous games so amazing. Sequels are supposed to improve on what made the first game amazing, not remove it in exchange for dumbed down gameplay. I do like most of the sequels i listed here but they could be so much better, especially smash. the divide between the brawl gameplay and melee gameplay is so wide that smash has been seperated into 2 communities that keep fighting each other and it really makes me sick, especially when there are so many easy solutions that could bring back old and new fans of their franchises. The switch too, which completely took all the extra functionality from previous nintendo consoles and destroyed it and smashed it all to bits, making it so much more restricted and useless than previous nintendo consoles. I wish i could play my playlist on the switch but i cant because nintendo refuses to make a music app. i have to take my phone with me in order to play my favorite songs, and its like what happened??? why did nintendo just nuke all their soul and great gameplay like this???

Video games aren't made by people with passion anymore. When every game you make requires so much investment, so much R&D, focus tests, making playable builds, re-starting the development of games in Metroid Prime 4's case, games getting pushed back because people are scared of a virus that can be defeated by an OTC medication that, as it turns out, not even CNN can now deny is apparently effective (maybe @WD_GASTER2 can add some clarification and/or context on this matter).

All of these things require money and time to be spent on making things that aren't necessarily representative of the final product. Like, imagine all of the work that goes into trailers and shit like that to make a game look good, and imagine the amount of money it takes off of a studio's budget to account for marketing the game. Then, you have focus tests, where you have people giving their opinions on a game that they probably aren't gonna buy because they aren't the target demographic, and will ask for things to get "toned down" to make it more "streamlined." Lastly, games must be projected to give a good ROI for both the devs and especially the publishers.

I've been thinking for a while about the status of Metroid Prime 4, and while this might be pessimistic Silent_Gunner speaking partially because of how much shit 2020 has given not just I, but the entire world, but I legitimately wouldn't be surprised if the game has been cancelled. Think about it: PS5 and the XSEX are coming out this year, coronavirus vaccine/lockdown still in place or not.

If Nintendo wanted to show off what the Switch could do, they had to start doing it this year, IMHO. They need to market their heavier hitting games more often, not update us about content updates that, honestly, people will figure out for themselves within a week. Like, I get them advertising the next Smash DLC character, but honestly, they need more than that right now, and I fear that all of this BS with the coronavirus pandemic might have screwed with the development of BOTW2, Metroid Prime 4, Bayonetta 3 (if that's even still Switch exclusive, has there even been an actual, full-on trailer for this game as opposed to just a teaser?), and other materials to where they can't show anything when they wanted to because devs have to take their work home with them, figure out all of the infrastructure issues, communication problems, and heaven knows what else.

Huh. That Xbox abbreviation's funny. I thought "XBONE" was chuckle-worthy, but "XSEX"?
What were Gates and other executives snorting, when coming up with names?

@RichardTheKing The OG Xbox is...what I just called it.

The Xbox 360 is the 360, though many will just refer to it as the Xbox anyways.

Xbox One is XBOne because who calls the third iteration of their main console platform the...you know, THE THING that you called the original, you "lying pony-faced dog soldier!?" ;)

Xbox Series X falls apart so easily because now, with the XBOne X, in casual conversation, when discussing this with someone who hasn't kept up with gaming in the past 10 years on a consistent basis because life happens, they get confused. Like, I get there's going to be multiple versions of the next Xbox system, but honestly? They should just rebrand the stupid thing at this point.

Like, the whole "X" in Xbox is such an outdated, 90's-sounding name. I honestly think they should just call this the Windows Console, or the WindowsBox, or some other stupid name that communicates what Microsoft is selling people, because when all you have to do is pay M$ whatever it costs to activate dev mode to allow you to run homebrew like RetroArch which includes, but is not limited to, PS1 and, depending on the progress of the emulator and the core, PS2 via Play!, you're essentially selling someone a gaming PC with proprietary parts inside that can't be upgraded by the user themselves. I imagine that the new Xbox systems will be running some stripped down version of Windows 10X that, because they want you to only use the M$tore, will restrict access to the C: drive or some other thing that makes it ultimately inferior to having just regular Windows.

xbox is a cool name though, why not keep that uniqueness? and it still holds true to what the console does: directXbox

also bill gates has nothing to do with the decisions modern microsoft does

@RichardTheKing Oh, totally. I always want more BP and HP, and it never seems to be enough. I can live with that limitation though, you get quite a big bump per upgrade so in practice it doesn't actually end up being more limiting. The alternative would be rebalancing everything else to account for increased stat gains per level and the end result would be the same.

The star point gain dropping as you increase in level is an alternative to requiring more EXP to level up as in other RPGs. The effect is the same, but compared to an EXP system where required EXP keeps going up forever, star points can never go lower than 1 point per enemy killed. That means you can still grind on the same entry level goombas in late game, it will only take 2-3x longer than early game (early game they give 2 or 3 points each IIRC) where in another RPG the EXP to level up could be 100x-1000x what it is early game and it's pointless to grind on weak mobs in late game.

Also, Paper Mario doesn't require grinding, like, at all. The games never get difficult enough, and there isn't any super hard optional content like is so common in turn based RPGs either. So if you feel like you need to grind then you are not playing the game right.

@64bitmodels Why did so many people pay attention to Onision at first? Because he sang that stupid song about becoming a fucking banana? (which, given what we know about him now, must have been an expression about what was truly going through his head)

Point is, who knows?

@Silent_Gunner
Who's "Onision"? I've heard of him, a handful of times before, but never really learned anything about him.
The only "banana" songs I've heard of are Bananaphone (the Harry Potter puppet thing), and Bananas in Pyjamas (as a child).

@64bitmodels
so... as I understand it. you just want HD melee, and HD mario kart wii... with the engine intact, and all the glitches....
yeah, no. Good luck with that

@monkeyman4412 *Intact. I could say that grammatical errors are tactless, but...oh hell, I just did. Never mind.

the switch was quite upsetting to me like without the ambience music the home menu isnt nintendoy anymore lack of themes a nice small feature but can live without and lack of multimedia like man movies, music etc woild be nice well theres always youtube but i also need netflix and nintendo did say once they are making a netflix on switch but is silent after that, animal crossing feels the same kinda, theres metroid in the works, fuck paper mario, pokemon poop etc this is a reason why i see myself playing on the wii more

Bingo! :D
Though i'd actually perfer to be a decompilation of those games so they can be ported to other platforms (ala SM64 decomp) with actual HD support and much more modding capabilities but you get my gist
hopefully we can stop typing novel-length essays now
