The worst thing to happen when playing an RPG

was playing through the original dragon warrior on NES after about 3 hours of grinding because this game actually requires it I hit CTRL-R on my keyboard which resets my emulator without saving which the only reason I hit CTRL-R was because I was trying to refresh a page in my browser not noticing the emulator was selected kinda lost all inspiration to play to play that game again...

Try being in the 90s when renting games was still a thing. Try playing your grindy RPG on original hardware when all of the sudden you have a power outage, losing unsaved hours of playtime from the limited time you already had. That's the worst thing to happen when playing an RPG.

Unfortunately, I know this too well. Except it wasn't a power outage, but the PS1 laser being a dick.

My playthrough of Chrono Trigger and the hairdryer in the other room. PZzt blown fuse!

Meh... I restarted playing Wild Arms like 5 times back on the day the first week I got it together with my PS1 and until I finally got a memory card. Each of those times I probably lost some 3+ hours of progress, I really enjoyed the game nonetheless.
If you don't want to play it anymore after losing your first 3 hours of progress, you probably just weren't enjoying the game. I guess you were just playing Dragon Warrior due to some kind of completionist guilt.

@sarkwalvein yeah kinda I feel when I start a game series I have to play the first game in the series in its original state and most of the time I will 100% it

I think I have restarted Final Fantasy Tactics A2 over 12 or 13 times now. Sometimes just because, sometimes to test out some cheats. Sometimes I dont like the names I get when I start and I dont decide to start over until I'm at least 5 hours in. But of those restarts, there were at least 5 times I didn't mean to reset. I transferred phones ( I am playing it on DraStic), Or a cheat went haywire and nuked my save. I have probably never even made it over half way.

Late in my days of playing Dragon Warrior Monsters I had a nearly stat maxed Servant monster. He was level capped at 99 and couldn't gain any more stats. I made a few bad breeding choices and basically lost his gene line to crap breeding. That was heartbreaking.

Once, my brother was playing Golden Sun and got to a new town. He didn't have enough money for new weapons so he sold everything he had equipped from all his characters and proceeded to buy new stuff. He ran out of money and basically soft locked himself haha

I remember when I was little I sometimes lost a save file for Pokemon or whatever. It tore me apart. More recently, I lose saves from Sims 3 due to the game crashing or UI glitching (preventing ability to save). Still hurts.

I dont think this game wants me to play it 3 hours in and it crashed on me another 3 hours lost
