The use of avatars in forums

What are your thoughts on this epidemic? Stay or leave? For me, it's cool, so I want it to stay.

I know, I'll be reading a topic and not know it is somebody untill i look at the name because they changed their avatar.
Somebody here, I think JPH, has or had a avatar that changed everytime you reloaded the page.

Oh, and NihongoMan is the coolest avatar!

My avatar is silent objection to avatars.
 
I think it's a good way to express yourself and let people know what you're into. As shown in my avatar, I am a huge fan of the X-Files!
 
People remember images better than names. So if you keep your avatar the same, it's a good thing.
