The rewards of hard work 4/16/2019 Part 2

Today I just went and picked up our cow, Patty, from the slaughterhouse.

We already had 2 chest freezers full from all the pork of our pigs that we brought to the slaughterhouse a month ago. Last night we went and bought upright freezer. ALL OF OUR FREEZERS ARE NOW FULL!!!

I did not organize all the meat very well so it looks like a mess, but my wife and I will fix it later.

We have over 400 lbs of pork and 400 lbs of beef in 3 different freezers, and plus some more in our fridge/freezer. I knew that we were going to have a lot of meat, but this is all just too damn shocking. We have enough food to feed us for 2 years! But that is not how all this meat is going to be used.

I am one that loves to share what I have. I usually give away close to half of anything that I raise and grow. Why? Because I like to help people and I like to know that people around me are eating good healthier food. My friends, family, and neighbors all get a share of what we have worked hard for. We also like to throw big parties. On one party we spent almost $300 on meat alone at a butcher shop a few years back. But now we have that readily available.

Whats even better is that I have 22 baby meat chickens in my sunroom right now. In another 6 weeks they will be ready for slaughter. That will be even more that we get to use to feed our family and friends.

Our whole family invested soo much time, effort, and money raising these animals. Everyone did their part to help provide for the family.

Now what is even better... We are going to build a farm stand. We are going to start selling what we raise and what we grow. This is what are family wants to do. We have a goal and a dream. All this effort that we are putting into everything now is helping us learn and prepare for when we buy some farm land and really get big. Currently we have a bunch of chicken and turkey eggs that we need to offload as well.

Anything I can do to provide better for my family make it all worth it.

Soon we are going to breeding out championship lineage chocolate lab and selling the puppies.

This is the first time in my life that I actually feel that I have a positive future, that I am finally using my skills and talents to do something great.

I thank you all for viewing, and if anyone would happen to want to buy some meat from me, send me a PM.

While I am not a great fan of American style cow butchery (rump roast it where it is at for me) I would not say no to a freezer like that.

Thanks for sharing.

why pig? haven't you tired eating pig? time to breed some bovine which taste far greater than pigs.

p.s. since bovine can feed themselves with grass you don't even need to buy them fodder

@Subtle Demise Dry ice. The stuff is cheap enough. If I send something via 2 day shipping then it will be good. The feds have guidelines for shipping frozen meat and how to keep it safe.

Technically, I am not supposed to sell the beef bc I did not pay for the USDA inspector to put his stamp on it, but all the pork is stamped. I mean, I am sure I can get away will selling whatever and it is not like anyone will really give a shit anyways. The meat is still perfectly safe. To have the USDA inspector put his stamp on the meat, it is like $150 to $200 per animal. But the slaughterhouse has an inspector there almost everyday and if they do just happen to process something while the inspector is there then it will get the stamp even if I didn't pay for it, which is what happened with my pork.
