The rewards of hard work 3/19/2019 Part 1

This past Sunday we brought our 2 meat pigs, Honey and Smokey, to the slaughterhouse. Half of their meat is being smoked which takes 2 weeks, and the other half I already picked up is in the pictures below.

This was a family effort to make this all happen. Each one of us did our part in taking care of these pigs. That right there is ~ 250 lbs of meat that will be feeding our family for the next year. And next week we have our cow going to get processed too, so we are going to have WAY too much meat here. I am already almost out of freezer space.

Thank you for viewing.

This time it is rated for outside consumption? Interesting.

Anyway nice butchering; so often US butchers seem to want to remove the fat... over there a few months back and trying to find a piece of pork to roast and have some decent crackling with was a nightmare.

Do share the results of the cow as and when.

I am actually looking to barter off as much meat as possible we have too much and not enough freezer space. If anyone has anything to trade...

Well.....I hate to waste; if you absolutely can't/don't want to feed your neighbors, extended family, or vegan homeless people and the meat has a chance of going bad, I suggest talking to your local fire department and ask if they'd like some food.

You wouldn't believe how grateful they are for donations. Plus, you'd probably make them feel good the community is looking out for them, as much as they're looking out for the community.

Odd question, but how many times a year do you take your pigs to the shack?

Speaking of meatballs, what's the deal with meatball sandwich? How can people eat those? It's ROUND. Trying to bite those in a sandwich is a challenge. It's easier to eat a burger stacked with toppings. :ninja:
