The Insanity of Google

The Introduction
Google is a company that originally had the idea in mind to make a web the people would like (correct me on that fact I got it from a biased news source) However the modern Google has become a mess through cookies, trackers, economy. Let me explain
Trackers, Cookie, Spyware
Google is a company that does not worship the privacy of its customers. For example, say you search up something super embarrassing multiple times, like Madonna or WiiMiiSwitch polls. Since you searched it multiple times, Google will log (save) that search and sell the data to advertising companies! Are you comfortable selling your web history to advertising companies?! I'm not for sure. Since they have many services they see what you do there too. This includes but is not limited to Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps, Blogger, and many other websites THEY PAY to sell your data. It's worse if you use Google Chrome since they HAVE YOUR HISTORY, however, unlike chromium, it adds trackers that are hard to find since Chrome isn't open source. It's horrible, it's hard to avoid since Google basically owns the "web" but we'll get back to that later
The Google Eco System
It's no doubt that you use Google Services (even at a bare minimum). However, these "services" do not worship the user. How? Simple, for example, you use Google Classroom which is a service for the students, they will give ADS TO YOU BECAUSE YOU USE GOOGLE CLASSROOM. Or let's use a better example. You watch YouTube videos on Vaccum Reviews. You get YouTube ads on vacuums since you looked at vacuums. Then you get those ads on Google since they SPIED ON YOU, then you get those vacuum ads on GMAIL. Then since many sites use Google Ads you get Vacumms there since THEY SPREAD YOUR DATA TO COMPANIES. That's why we have these services like Google Slides which seems unprofitable.
Google Is The Web, Or is It?

Some time ago, I was using Firefox and someone said "Why are you using that, no one uses that!" Why, because back in 2009 Google Chrome was better. People don't realize there are other useable web
browsers that are faster and better because of past slow browsers. Like Internet Explorer, for example, no one uses Edge because they still think Edge freezes like IE. Since Google Chrome was decent in like 2009 people are going to keep using it instead of looking for faster browsers or relooking old ones. People just think Google is the best, unaware of the trackers and the other shit they give you
Is it too late?

No, lots of browsers care about privacy and are much more faster and privacy based then Chrome

 All this :shit: about Google is TRUE. I had the Police at my door once saying I downloaded documents pertaining to securities. I was a guard [post commander] at [I can't name the place, though trivial], and was looking for the Ariel view of my work, to see any vulnerabilities I might have. The police went as far as saying that Google had reported this to the unmentioned place, who intern Fired me. 3 years later [and after I bought a new one] I got an email saying basically saying something to the effect of : Sorry for the inconvenience, but we found nothing to the effect If you wish, you may pick it up at any of our offices. Really? Take Heed People, Big Brother is watching.

[goes back to downloading porn] [real nasty porn].

There is a strong reason why I didn't mention Android. Android is open source and can be modified to stop tracker
So is Chromium. Android maybe open source. But this doesn't help much in practice.
  • No root access by default → Paying customer does not own phone
  • Locked bootloader – sometimes cannot be unlocked
  • Loss of (hardware) warranty on bootloader unlock
  • Proprietary vendor modification and addons → hard to adjust free (as in freedom) operating systems for devices
  • "System Apps" (bloatware, background services) which cannot be uninstalled (manufacturer can chooses)
  • Essential software complaining on disabling Google Play Services
  • Abundance of warnings when installing apps NOT from Play Store
Theoretically base Android is an open source and maybe even a trustworthy OS. But that is only theory. What you can get by simply buying a random phone/tablet (no matter if cheap or expensive $$$$) is little better than iOS devices.

I really have to disagree. I see your point but Android is one of the most modifiable and easy to exploit systems. I was able to remove the bs from it. Also, there's a project called Ungoogled Chromium. Chromium but with less bs

@KleinesSinchen You can completely de-googlify a lot of Android phones (almost any phone can have custom ROMs installed on it), but honestly, it's not a very usable experience from what I've heard. It's just stripped of a lot of functionality and the only way to get it back is by sideloading Play Store apps and using microg and stuff like that to make them work, which kind of ruins the point. Fine if you only use your phone for calls and taking pictures though.

@The Real Jdbye
I have done exactly this: LineageOS 17.1 (Android 10) on a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact (officially last version Android 6.0).
  • NO Google Apps, NO microG, No Play-anything, no BS.
  • Browser, VLC, eBook-Reader, (offline) pedometer, some ZIP/archive program
  • Magisk
  • The phone is fast. Really f a s t. Battery running time is not what I wanted (about a week to ten days), but acceptable.
It is a very usable experience. The phone works as a phone (and could do much more). The only reason why it is in use is: My dumbphone gave up the ghost and I didn't want to buy anything new when I have these experimental devices lying here around.

Yes, theoretically it can be done. In practice average Jane/Joe will not even consider it. I'm not computer alliterate and bricked the software on my first attempt. The moment one wants to use messaging apps (WhatsApp :shit:), the missing Google Services will most likely prevent push notifications – which is more or less a death sentence in the eyes of many users.
This missing functionality is the point: There is no way around Google. The end user does not have the choice to get full functionality as easy when removing Google.

It is not user friendly and not easy, not supported and not even tolerated: Warranty terms even ban any kind of modification.

I have no doubt YOU can do this. You can adjust stock ROM or custom ROM in any form you want it. In fact I learned some things about Android from you! My experiments last year have confirmed and strengthened my opinion on Android and Android devices. I got a few devices open and successfully brought them to a more or less trustworthy state.
