The Big Plan

So, my brothers are out of the country and I want to send them some games, as many games as possible while sending as few of accessories as possible and I want to send them on a handheld.
The Big Plan
Cost is going to be a factor, but I have about a year to come up with the money and I'm forecasting that my budget is going to be around $800 but I hope that I can get everything for around $650-$700 (I'm buying for 3 guys of the ages: 8, 10, and 12.) The reason why I chose Nintendo DS Lites is:
They are cheaper than the competition that I've seen.
Because they will be able to play together without the need for cables or WiFi, or complicated "rituals" *cough, cough, PSP*. (They cant access internet where they are at) so with DS's I know that they can sit in the same house and play together and they can communicate from several feet away. Without any complications.

I need:

3 DS's (I think Phats are sturdier than lites--but they'll be getting lites anyway)
Flashcarts (So far my choice is Cyclo but I'm going to wait until the last month or so to order the flashcards because something else may come out.)
SD Cards (duh!) Preferably 6 gigs each

If my calc's are correct then the expenses run as follows:

Essential Hardware--Required:

Nintendo DSL x 3 =421.20 (current average)
Cyclo DS Evo x 3 =159.00 (approxiamately)
6 Gig Micro SD x3 = 153.80 (current average)

Total = 734.00 (estimated)

Essential Hardware--Prefered:

Each DS Will need:
--Protective Case**
Must keep out dust, sand, dirt, and added drop protection.
--Screen Covers*
Must STAY in PLACE.
Needn't be removable
--Additional Stylus (6.00 USD)
Just one extra per child, I can get a pack of 3 for cheapy cheap.
--Carrying Case***
Doesn't need to be big but I would like it to have a place for everything and a belt clip.
--Extras:
An Outer Skin*

*I can order 3 of each of these items from one place (Decalgirl.com) for 49.47--is that a good deal?
** Intec's ArmorLite looks like the best thing out there. 10.00 almost everywhere, so 30.00 for the Protector cases.
***Need recomendations on this matter.

Total = 85.47 (estimated)

Grand Total = 819.47--(This Will change as I finalize the prodcut selection and factor in shipping)

Each SD Will need:
--Good folder directory
Thats up to me to set up.

Each Cyclo will need:
--To be tested before it goes
Again, thats up to me.
--Skin
Do these eat up alot of space? If not I may include up to 5 on each card.

This is all looking very expensive--especially since I have no job yet but I've got until next spring and I'm depending on the price of Micro SD cards to go down a little bit more so that a 6 gig MicroSD (currently at an approximate average of 51.00 USD) will be anywhere from 9-15.00 USD less.

And, who knows, a better Flash cart then the Cyclo may come out and cost a little more or less. I KNOW that I wont be spending more than 65.00 USD on a Flashcart and so far the Cyclo seems the absolute best choice for my needs.
My bros. are young but they are pretty average kids in the things that they like and I want to include a wide selection of media for the Cyclos' because they wont be able to update or change the stuff on the cyclos Micro SD cards until I am able to send new ones. I'm going to put on the cards: Video, Text, Pictures, Games, Apps, Emulators, Roms, and Audio--in other words everything under the sun that you can put on a Micro SD and run from a Cyclo DS Evo

It may seem like I'm over doing it and that all of these things aren't needed but I can assure you all that where the DS's are going it is DEFINITELY ESSENTIAL that they have a case, a high quality, snug fitting protective case. One that will block dirt from getting in the units, add protection against drops and keep the boys from turning their DS's into very expensive paper weights. The screens need protection against scratches no matter where they are because they get scratched.

I also want to send a DS skin--on each unit. Because all of the boys like different things and I think they'd really love it to have customized systems. I also want to apply different skins/themes to each unit before it is sent off.

So I suppose that the only thing I'm trying to get them that I dont feel they'll need with this set up is the outer skins but hey, sisters love to spoil their little brothers right?

The Part Where GBATempers'll Come In
You may be wondering why I chose 6 gigs when they're kind of young, well I will tell you why I chose 6 gigs because I want to include:
Videos
Avatar: The last airbender (Seasons 1+2 and 3 will be out by then also), Transformers, Power Rangers, TMNT, SpiderMan, Xmen + a couple of movies
Photos
Of our family--they didn't take any with them.
E-Books
They had quite a few of young adult chapter books that they didn't finish all of and I am working on transcribing the books for them.
HomeBrew Apps
Come on now, do I really need to explain why they'd like the homebrew applications that have come out for the DS?

Homebrew Games
They've never heard of many of these games before and I know that they would like some of them.

Emulators
For;
Nintendo: NES, SNES, GB/GBC
Sega: Genesis, 32x, CD
--So they can play some of the games they used to play at the house.

So what I need from you guy, gals, and fellow gamers, is...RECOMMENDATIONS on which is the best brand, stores, programs etc. for the items that I spoke of:
I dont particularily care about the colors of the accesories, as all the DS's will either be white or black and I can only do but so much for them anyway.

So what are the best,
Cases/Shells
Outer Skins
Homebrew Apps
HomeBrew Games
Emulators for the systems mentioned

They wont have WiFi so there isn't any reason to factor that into the equation at all, but multiplayer is good because there is three of them.

Thanks to everyone in advance for all your replies. I have the greatest faith that my fellow GBATempers will come through for me with the best advice and links and resources. I apologize if my post is erraneous where the Bold, Italic, Size, etc...format tages are concerned. I did it in Notepad in class so I had to just sort of guess as I did them.

P.S. Please dont tell me not to get a Cyclo unless you can post atleast three paragraphs of reason not to. I have read the GBATemp reviews for 11 different slot 1 cards and I have picked this one after much deliberation (Some new ones have come out since then, but by reading the conclusion of those reviews I've remained firm in my choise of a Cyclo). I wont be changing my mind for anything less than 400 words or 7 complete sentences of factual info on an oposing Flash card.

P. P.S. (I love this--> :nds:) How can I make a Gif of a flash cart?

Essential Hardware--Required:

Nintendo DSL x 3 = 390.00 (check amazon.com - 129.99 with free shipping and no tax)

That's all I can contribute since I don't use homebrew/apps/movies or anything but roms.

I see you moved the topic. C:
First of all, what you're doing is really nice, and I can't imagine them not having fun with what you're gonna give them. I wish I was your brother (Haha, just kidding, just kidding).

I'm not a pro at the whole DS Scene, but I think I can help.
You live in the US, right? You should go to Fry's Electronics.
The store around where I live in has this huge stock of DS accessories that I'm sure will help.
Last time I checked, they also had all the DSLite colors in stock (lots of em, too). The thing is, though, don't order online from them. They have ridiculous prices compared to the stores.
I'll refer to Fry's Electronics as "in-store" (Haha.)

As for the CycloDSEvolution, I have one, and I think it's a good (if not the best) choice. Really well built, and the options are well-thought out. I've never had any problems with it. Just a tip - the reader that comes packaged might not be able to hold up to a 6GB Card. My 2GB Kingston Japan got burned because of it. A good store for this is Real Hot Stuff. I got mine from Mod-Chip, but only because RHS was out of stock. Mod-chip's pretty reliable too. They're located in Austria though. You can always check ResellerRatings for the stores.

For Outer Skin
I recommend the Nerf Case. It comes in different colors, and in-store they cost about $12.00.
A pretty good deal. I got it for my 8 year old sister because she's dropped her DS multiple times and she's scared it might happen again. After I got it for her, her DS is now well protected. The build is alot like the Nerf footballs that kids play with, so it's sturdy. It makes them pretty bulky, but my sister still has a good grip, so I don't think that's a problem.

For Cyclods Skins
Yeah, NDSThemes is an awesome site with lots of skins. Can I also direct you to my Cyclods skins? Incase you wanna check em out. C: Only a few right now, but I'll be adding more later. (Hehe, free advertisement)

Oh yeah, skins don't really eat up space. I have 5 on mine right now, and I only use a 1GB card. Leaves a lot of room to work with, which is nice.

For the Screen Protectors
Hori Screen Protectors can be found in-store. It's Fry's, so I doubt they're fake. They're pretty cheap, usually costing about $10.00 at the most. The whole package also comes with a protective screen for the top of your DS and two seperate protectors for the buttons. Pretty good deal. Play-asia has them, too.

For the Extra Styluses
The DS itself has one extra in it already, but if you want more, Hori Retractable Styluses are well-built. I'm sure Fry's has them too, because I saw a few. I'm not sure, but I think one's from Fry's don't have the pen attachment included. Ones from Play-asia do though, but I can't find a link for them. D: Sorry, you'll have to search. ><;

Emulators, Emulators
There's a good list of Slot 1 Emulators in Gbatemp already. You can check it out. You might already know this, but even the best SNES emulator for the DS, SNEmulDS, does not have full compatibility with games. Just throwing that out, because I wanted to play Super Mario RPG, and it didn't work. (Haha ..)
Not sure, but maybe a Slot 2 cart could make it better. Don't have one, so I wouldn't know. I've heard good things about EzFlash 3-in-1's though. CycloDS + 3-in-1 seems to be the way to go nowadays.

Homebrew
Hmmm .. I found Colors and DSOrganize to be good. As for the games, I don't really know what kinds of Homebrew games there are for kids (QuakeDS? XD). You could search up Google for a good list - or wait, is there one in GBATemp?

Multiplayer Games
You didn't ask for it, but I wanted to recommend some that I had fun with. C:

Tetris DS - Fun, classic, and addictive
Mario Kart DS - They should have alot of fun with this one.
Clubhouse Games - 30+ Multiplayer Games in one, and all of them are pretty good.
P-P-Pokemon Pearl and Diamond? - If they're into it, it's really good.
Jump Ultimate Stars / Bleach DS - Beat-em-up games.
There's alot more, but I'm coming up with them from the top of my head. XD

Well! Hope I helped!

Speaking of meatballs, what's the deal with meatball sandwich? How can people eat those? It's ROUND. Trying to bite those in a sandwich is a challenge. It's easier to eat a burger stacked with toppings. :ninja:
