Also, er, spoiler for the last two Episodes, I guess. For the second screenshot, anyway. I could've blacked it out, but didn't think of it until now. Oops.

Spirit channelling was never really utilised to its fullest extent, though, with Maya and Pearl only really summoning Mia (with the exception of Trials and Tribulation's last case) before the concept was shit-canned for both AJ:AA and Dual Destinies, and finally being used to summon two victims in Spirit of Justice, the second one being a damning secret.

In short, I'm not surprised it wasn't even mentioned in TGAAC; I mean, Maya never even tries to channel anyone in Professor Layton VS Ace Attorney, not even a (supposedly) dead witch. Sure, that'd likely spoil a major plot twist, but at least it would've provided some intrigue - "why isn't Maya's power working?" "Is it something special about Labyrinthia?", etc.
