Well, I suppose I'll just talk about random shit today.
1. Ooh. 1999 posts. Meh, I want the 2000th to be special, and so it will. I'm just thinking of the right one.
2. I just recently watched Source Code starring Jake Gyllenhal with my cousin. Very well made movie. The plot is extremely convoluted, but gripping. The weirdness barely even matters since the elements still remain coherent. The performances and effects were good, and manages to be an intelligent movie while remaining interesting. 3 and 1/2 stars out of 4.
3. I don't know why, but on weekends, I can't wake up late. Even if I sleep at 2 AM, I wake up at 8 AM, even if it's Sunday morning. My body clock is too adjusted to waking early.
4. Just read about a game called Pathologic and damn I want to play it right now. It seems to look very not fun, but I fucking want to play it. I'm a sucker for the excellent writing of the person that reviewed it/
5. Currently browsing around the Qu'ran and I have to say, this is a fine piece of literature. It has many great philosophical messages and it's quite logical surprisingly, at least more so than the Bible. I'm just annoyed at the Sexism of the entire thing.
6. I found this amazing bookstore that sells second-hand books at a very low price. I bought a hardbound 500 page book that was in near perfect condition for 5 pesos. (around 10 cents) I barely knew what is about, I just grabbed it. It turned out to be about some musician I've never heard of, but it was a great read nonetheless. It has Stephen King books too, and some cost only 100 pesos (2 dollars). It was a dream. It also has classical DVD's, a great range of cheap bookmarks, and BEADS. That'll be perfect since I'm aware that we are to make a necklace for school sometime next year. It's even located a walking distance away.
7. Finishing my replay of Final Fantasy VI. It's as good as I remember it. Still LOVE the game. And it's still my fave.
8. I'm thinking about what lessons to take this summer. I could take a language class, I could take Taekwando, I could take a writing class, I'm not sure. Or I could just not take any and spend my summer doing what I want.
9. Since my mom recently passed away, we had to pray 'Novenas' everyday, and they are really long. Perhaps it's just my atheism talking, but do we really have to pray for that long? But I commend the woman leading it since she memorized everything and made zero mistakes and talks at a rapid pace. I'm amazed at her. Not so much at the prayer itself.
10. I was reading through some things about Roger Ebert's arguments that video games are not art, and some rebuttals, but here's my take. Video games are not great art. YET. They can be, the only problem here is the fact that video games almost always aim to devote to our need for play, and not create a message. They can, they just haven't done so yet. Perhaps those Russian games like Pathologic have come close, but the execution falls short. In order for them to be recognized as an art form, the games need to focus more on the message, rather than the sense of play and fun. That's probably when we can recognize them as "sublime art", when we can feel the game, instead of just playing it. The medium is not the problem, the way it is currently used is.
11. Just this.
