I'M SO FUCKING STOKED!
So, I grew up in a trailer park, and have been fiddling with computers since an early age, but never really got any official education on them. Well, I start my tech classes this semester (previous semesters were non-tech things), and today was my first day at the main college campus as well (the previous classes I took were online or at the local regional center), so I was all intimidated and stuff at first... Everybody was so nice and helpful! I had orientation for two classes today, the first was a younger guy that seemed to really know his stuff, the second was an older man that mentioned Zenith and 5-1/4th floppies (but still makes an effort to stay sorta' current). I was worried about the books as well, but it turns out since I wasn't getting them before classes started that it could just come out of my grant along with tuition... so it did!
So I've gone from a trailer park kid fiddling with a windows 95 machine, to sitting in college FINALLY taking classes on a subject I absolutely love and getting a formal education and certifications. I'm so happy I actually cried a few times.
It's a 40-minute drive to the main campus, but that's just for those two classes (the others are online) and it's only two days a week.
Anyways two of the books I've got for a class seem interesting, any comments on them?
Hands-On Ethical Hacking and Network Defense, 2nd Edition (Michael T. Simpson, Kent Backman, James E. Corley)
The Art Of Deception (Kevin D. Mitnick)
