Success!

Well, I just wanted to update everyone on the situation. The urgent message to Canadians has reached many many eyes and ears, the effort on our part at GBAtemp has been an overwhelming success! We may very well have made a huge difference in this legislative process.

Now for some statistics: As of typing this the topic on GBAtemp has received over 33 THOUSAND views, nearly 200 replies, and brought in nearly 5000 viewers on average last night (when last I checked); most of whom were reading the topic. On the Digg front we've gotten nearly 350 comments and OVER 2200 diggs. We even reached Digg's front page. Finally, the most important detail of all, according to a representative from the CCER they're having hundreds of letters sent using their service every hour!

I'd like to take this time to thank The Teej for spreading the word to various forums and groups, Hadrian for putting up the Digg article, and of course Costello for contacting me about this in the first place when he was under no patriotic obligation to do so. The support from these fine fellows and the global community at large has been nothing short of astounding. To my fellow Canadians, all I can say is thank you and keep on sending those letters and spreading the good word.

In closing, I'd like to point you all towards the pre-written letter sending service once more and put up the signature images/code.

G
lol, my business teacher told me that downloading stuff is totally legal in Canada, as long as you don't redistribute it...

I think this is the law that makes that untrue now?

EDIT:

I meant in addition to all the other stuff

Just out of curiosity: Could you please explain what the CCER exactly is, having a "representative"? The web site doesn't state anything about the CCER itself or its intents and purposes. The only information it features a very short "memebers" list of five modchip sellers.

Well, its intent is fairly straightforward: to fight this legislation. As for its members, that list is the majority coalition (to my knowledge) though it expands into other areas as well. I'm fairly new to this so I don't know all of the details.[/quote]
So if one was malicious, one would say it's a bunch of modchip sellers under a fancy name, looking to protect their businesses?

Of course, on one level that's true. I've made it fairly clear this is all mutually beneficial, this legislation hurts all of us. It hurts this community, it hurts the retailers, it hurts the general Canadian public as it practically outlaws all downloading. It's just a huge deal on every level. So it's in all of our best interests to stop this from happening.

You guys are lucky for that to be legal (or at least a little less inforced).

Here in the US they're all crazy about copyright laws. :hateit:
